• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

wr250 and wr300????

question, I am swapping from Kawis to Huskys. I want to ride a 2 stroke, if not I will probably be on the 13 txc310r, need some comments on a wr250 or 300 thats? What would your input be on them? The kawi 450s felt a little big to me for manuevarability. Ride pro in Oma nationals GNCC and many hare scramble series and i ride endurocross. I tested out the The tc250 and it felt very good for me. Wanted more power so I thought txc310r But I was also wondering about 2 stroke cause in GNCC I could run xc2 pro lites on 250 2 stroke. any complements

Love my 09' WR250 ! I ride mostly rock/root infested singletrack and do a few ECEA hare scrambles and I wouldn't trade my Husky for a dump truck load of kx450's ! They definitely feel a little different at first and like every other bike they have their little quirks and things that need "tweaking". I recently had Works Enduro Rider valve the suspension and I also put a Keihin PWK carb and Driven shift lever from Motorsportz ..... this bike rips and handles like a dream..... no complaints at all.....

You sound like a 300 guy to me ... Unless that blocks you from the xc2 pro lites ... then you can be a WR250 guy ... The TXC310 is next in line for you ... Unless you just wanna be a 4T guy :0) .. Good luck on your racing on your Husky ...

PS -- 300s are just bored 250s :) .... maybe you could have 2 jugs for all your racing ...

thanks bud, yeah im going to be on the wr250 and i will get a 300 jug to test with and see where i can feel an advantage with it. i was at first going to go with the 13 txc310r but i would only be able to race the open class with it and i feel i will be more comfortable with the 250 2 stroke power and more comfortable in the class. i will have
alot of testing time with it so i will be able to get fully comfortable on it and my mechanic rode for husky back in the 80s and said they were the ultimate offroad machine and he knows his 2 strokes. we will see, thanks

Cool ... I don't think you can go wrong on any of these bikes, even the 310 but it is a 4 banger and has the racing class restrictions ...

Another thing on the WRs ...They are CRs model engines (Cagiva brand really) with a different FWW (heavier) and ignition ...About $250 spent on the spark items and it is a CR (both have the same close ratio tranny) ....Husky has played musical suspension on the forks on the WRs so take your pick on what you want there... Your mechanic is probably down will all this as the engine has been around awhile ..

Some where down the line, maybe 2010 and the WR ignition when digital so that is something to be aware of also ..

I had a 2002 CR 250 ... Only took about 2 yrs before it quite scaring me crapless in the woods ... Hard as an anvil for off road riding ... after I rode it 6 yrs ... It was still rock hard and solid ... wish I still had it ... :( ..

A TCX310 is probably more race ready out of the box than a Wr250. The WR, IMO, is a rock solid platform to build a great race bike from. You can race a WR stock, but the more you put into set up, the better it works. Suspension would need the most work to handle PRO level racing. Me, I'd just throw on some Ohilins and be done with it if I were racing PRO level.

The motor is on par with the YZ250, IMO. Like the Yamaha, you can lug it or wring it out. The cool thing to me is that there are so many thing you can do with it, between using aftermarket and older model parts, that you can basically make it anything you want.

If you have a two stroke proficient mechanic / tuner, then he should be able to figure out it's short comings in short order. Again, set up is the key here.

Then from there it's basically what pipe, carb and ignition combo works for you. You have the choice of the stock parts or a Keihin carb and the '02 CR250 ignition, and of course, a hand full of different pipes. That's probable more sponsor related than at you level than anything.

thanks, i was going to put a Keihin AirStriker Carb on and Fmf will be helping me out with the Gnarly and Powercore2
from there my gearing will be tested for different tracks (tighter, more wide open, rocky) and flywheel weights will be tested. The rest will be up to my Mechanic on what output i give him for an input. I have raced 4 strokes for past 6 years, but i have 2 stroke time on the moto track. My mechanic does suspension, Pro Logics out of Ky with Sipes racing. what you mean by ignition combo? preferences?

There are basically two choices of ignition for the WR's. You have the stock ignition or the 2002 CR250 unit. The CR unit has a much lighter flywheel than the WR units and are know to improve response and top end power.

Might be way off base but I do not remember anyone trying the CR FW with the WR ignition ...Might produce something different between these two different ignitions ...

Sweet deal!!! Only used 3 pipes on my CR ... Never had the stock pipe on it (or a Fmf) for comparison but did try 2 PC pipes and the C2-racing pipe ... Hands down, the C2 pipe was a league above the PC pipes from just off-throttle to screaming out the top side ... To be honest, one of the PC pipes was pointed at very top PRM range and was very close to the C2 pipe ... But the PC robbed from the bottom big time to add to the top ... The C2 worked the entire rpm range ... A clone of this pipe is sold by Husky I think ... If a few extra $$ roll around ... That pipe might open your eyes a little wider ...
