Think you could get a 610 for quite a bit less. Husqvarna dealers have too many left over and discounts here are for the asking. Used 610s are out there too.

    PS

Power/torque was what put me off the 610. Ride them both and then decide.

Something to think about, with the new 630 you will still have to send the forks and shock to LT racing to get valved properly, you will still need the new updated front fork adjustable compression dampers, new fork and rear shock springs? and if you ride long hours your very likely to dump some money into a new seat. I have done all the above to my new 08 SM 610. It turned a crappy bike into a real sweet ride. Oh and don't forget the Leo Vince silencer, power up kit, the handguards, skid plate, etc...

So, what do you figure? Something north of $3g's for the needed mods?

I got a used Leo Vince muffler 200$, handguards for 130$, made my own skid plate for 6$ and a bottle of rye, 24$ The gut's extra thick seat and race cover was 130$, My dad is a machinest and he made the plug for the lambda sensor, and I made the sensor top plug for 8$.It starts to add up with the front (.48) and rear (6.0) springs 210$, the shock revalve from LT racing 125$ Well worth it, Les really knows his stuff. The big bullet was $135 for the front compression dampners. They where on backorder from Marzochi USA. I luckily got a set thru Taskey's Metric in Everett.
Those prices are U.S funds. I picked the bike up brand new in April 10, for 5900$ Canadian, from a Canadian dealer. I wasn't sure that I would keep the bike for that long because I usually get bored of street bikes pretty quick. But I have put 6,500 km on it since April, and I really do like it. I was quoted 10,800$ plus 12% tax for a new 630. I found that to much to swallow.
Looks like I will need a new speedometer as mine is going wonkey and I have to do a reset on it every 2nd ride.
Putting in a new cam chain every 2nd year does not scare me as there are lot's of walk thrus, but it is nice that the new 630s have a shorter cam chain.
So I think about a thousand dollars will dial your bike in nicely.

You´d most likely have to do all that on a used bike too! And you´d have the added risk of not knowing of any damage caused by the previous owner. Personally, I´d be very wary of a second hand competition bike.

I have ran through the OEM Karoos. They're ok, but the knobs are kind of large and closely spaced.

I quickly ran through a set of Motoz Enduro I/T tires, because I put too many street miles on them. So far, they're my favorite off-road. If you're a 90% off-road rider, Motoz are the way to go. For the street, you'll be replacing the rear tire every 500-600 miles.

I just spooned on some Pirelli MT21s. So far so good, but they haven't seen anything other than pavement and some local gravel roads.

Kenda K270. They are cheap ($75 set at Rocky Mountain) and they are wearing good, and seem to have good traction on pavement and dirt.

Quite pleased with my TE 630. Rear suspension dialed in nice. Front needs revalve and lighter springs.(I weigh 190lb) Changed gearing to 14/45 from way too tall 15/42. Power up kit. Homemade skid plate. See no reason to change seat. Dunlop D606 on hand for rear change out.

Took some pic's of the 610 today, with my homemade 6$ skidplate. Good old dad made the aluminum front brackets, a tee bar probably would have worked just as good. The expensive part was having the bottom brackets and "wings" welded (24$ bottle of rye). I just made a cardboard template and bent it in my vice. It doesn't rattle, and has never come loose. Oh yes, a Shinko tire on the rear, and an Avon Distanza on the front. Very nice on the road, and fairly stable on gravel roads.

The 630 is so great because you could have bought a KTM 690 without a rear subframe, a narrow-range tranny, pay $10.5K, and still have to make all the same modifications except for the compression adjusters.

What I like so much on the 610 is the nice torque you feel on acceleration. My bike is geared 15-45 stock, I changed it to 16-43. I don't switch into 6th till over 105 kmph (65 mph). I must be a trials rider because I have never revved it past 7800rpm yet, and usually only rev it to 6500 rpm before i make a shift.
One thing on the farkle list for next year will be a ohlins steering damper. You do start to get head shake above 70 mph.

Soon as I heard that the 610 was being replaced with the 630 I called Hall's and bought a left-over '09 610. For the kind of dual sport riding I do, even the 610 is a bit on the heavy side. I did not need the extra power of the 630 nor the extra weight nor the extra expense for offroad trails. The only dissapointments I have with the 610 is the harsh suspension valving and poor steering radius. New springs and lighter oil helped but I think a revalve is inevitable.

If I did mostly road riding and easy trails, I would have considered the 630 but it has no advantages over the 610 for serious offroading. But I am riding trails that I'd be better off using an enduro bike. The TE however gives me the option of cruising at a higher speed on the highway. Less maintenance too.

Power of the 610 in stock form is very adequate for offroading. I rode another 610 with the Leo V and power up kit. Although there was a tiny bit more power, the exhaust was too loud for my liking. Those who say that the Leo is no louder than stock must already be accustomed to the sound and have forgotten what stock sounds like.

Basically, the choice of the two bikes comes down to what mix of riding you do and your tolerance for bike weight.

Which is better is a silly debate. If the 630 wasn't in some real way better than the 610, it would be shocking. It doesn't mean a damn thing about me or how fun my 610 is or isn't. People are weird. :D

As to which makes financial sense... well, that's between you and the keeper of your wallet.
