Hmmm, JD's website says, the same PSurge 6x is suitable for both TE and TXC. I emailed him asking about possible issues and suggestions. I'll post his reply...
Here's what I wrote to JD- I was using a JD Power Surge 6x on a 2011 TE310 with the stock ECU. I have now upgraded the ECU to a TXC310 unit, along with a 12 port injector. Husqvarna PN 8000H7557 includes both these items. I still have the PS 6x in-line, but all mode settings are at “4”. Questions: 1-Is the PS 6x I’m using designed specifically for the TE310? 2-Am I doing and harm to the bike by continuing to use it? 3-Do mode settings “4” across the board mean “no fuel added or taken away” now that the ECU is a TXC310 unit? 4-Should I just remove the PS 6x altogether? Thanks so much for your thoughts Here's Mr. Deans response- "The tuner is designed to work for both the TE310 and TXC310. When we tested the 2012 TXC310, I fully expected it to need different settings than we were using, but the same settings were very good and didn't need to be changed. You can continue to use the tuner with the the same programming without harm, and it should work well. I would not remove the tuner. Setting all the modes to light #4 is going to be the same as stock mapping without the tuner."
OK it's done, and the operation was a complete success. Fuel metering is now smooth, clean and linear everywhere. The JD tuner is still in-line, but all settings are still at "4". Power output is similar to stock ECU with the power-up and JD tuner - which is to say, very strong and responsive. I used iBeat (a thousand thanks to DougW) and set the butterfly stop to set TPS sweep back to 0-100% from idle to WOT, and all CO settings are at 100. Bike was already powered-up and cat removed. It's worth noting I still have the stock exhaust and Arrow silencer. In the coming weeks, I'll start playing with the tuner to see if can make it even better, perhaps by leaning it out a bit to compensate for the less free-flowing exhaust. I've noticed even with the new injector that I still have to clutch the bike quite a bit when going slowly and I wonder if the JD tuner can help with the low end still. Don't get me wrong, I love the bike now, but I think it can be improved still. I realize that the fly wheel is light and this engine likes to move but spending $900 on a rekluse is a bit much right now. I'm really doing my best to become a faster and more aggressive rider and this 250 is perfect for me. Looking forward to West Virginia in April. Riding with 18 Guys (I'm the only gal). I don't intend to be the slowest one..... we'll see...
Hey Ultra! Creepy profile pic... If I saw that running behind me while on the 250, I'd be full throttle..LOL. Did you end up putting the new injector/ECU on your bike or are you just running the JD with the stock? I noticed over in the JD powersurge forum you were dissapointed with the low end. I must say that it's a huge difference and well worth the money. All those problems will be solved with the upgrade. I'm still trying to master how to wheelie and with the new injector it's way easier.
I suspect we're having to clutch the bike more because of the close ratio trans. If the bike is running half way decent I can't see a new injector really fixing that issue. My 2010 te250 like to rev high and not lug unlike my 2011 te310 does. I had come off a 04 crf250 which was much better for lugging but again it had a wid ratio trans that also helps in my opinion.
I had the same issues with having to constantly feather the clutch and frequent stalling, I changed the red/blue accelerator pump setting all the way down to 1, it's like a different bike now with no stalling and a decent bottom end, my settings are: Green/Blue (idle) 5 Green (low) 5 Yellow (mid) 5 Red (high) 4.5 Yellow/Blue (transition) 3 Red/Blue (accelerator pump) 1 I'm not saying it will work for every bike but for the sake of 2 mins programming its worth a shot, I was going to sell my bike until I tried this. Trevor.
I wish the forum would support gif files so my avatar would move..... I spent the day today changing my tires over and switching the gearing in anticipation of riding tomorrow. Something came up so it will wait but I want to try Freakies settings and see. If it still runs bad I guess I have no choice but to get the 12 port/ecu. Can I do that without having to adjust the tps? I really don't want to spend any more money, especially 400 + ibeat. Oh ya, it's not really the low end I worry about but the way the bike flames out with the slightest twitch of the throttle. That is just plain wrong.
Jack. Ride the bike a bit. Those 250s are super tight out of the box and take a bit of time to loosen up. Get a few hundred klicks on it before you spend a bunch of money on it. I just rode a customers TE250 yesterday with the JD box and about 500kms on it and it worked really good.
My 310 loosened up after about 250 miles (@400km). Before that, pulling away from a stop required quite a bit of gas. It's less fussy now and much more usable. The JD box also helped. I do wish I got better mileage, though. I get 35mpg and expected much better mileage from a small displacement bike.
I just did a 100 miler, Beach at Santa Cruz to Alice's(Woodside) and back. Hwy 9 to Skyline and return. Running the 12 port, TXC ECU and the full Leo, still have fuel in the tank after pinning it most of the way.... Thinking 50+ MPG with this set up ???
