OK this is what I have learned so far... seems some bikes shipped with a 6 port and some with a 4 port? A few have mentioned they had no "Flat spot" before the upgrade ( 6 port) ? and some had a "Flat spot" (4 port). I am willing to bet my bike has a 4. I bought the Special Parts Leo full ti and ecu after running it in and installed it my self. After the installation I loaded it in my truck and took it to the dealer to reset the TPS on I beat. I was stoked the little ripper was getting some love. Long story short: Noticed flat spot 27-3400 rpm. Installed PCV/ auto tune, to fix it, never really fixed it, sure it ran better but $ 600. HuskyUK informs use that the 2012 special parts has a " fix" for me, nozzle/ECU. Dealer said it is not available in the US yet. Was set to buy the Kaw nozzle and run PCV/auto tune. Swapped the TE rear fender to a TC for a SM race next month. Pain in the ass, for a simple task, PCV/auto tune will have to be moved every time. Reviewed Fred Andrews (FAR Racing thread to see his cable routing) to make it easy. Never read his post all the way through, until last night. The 2012 TXCs ship with the 12 port and race ECU " NO NEED for PCV/ auto tune on the new bikes". This said I will check out the Husky SP ( on order) and hopefully sell the PCV/auto tune. 07 510 SMR race bike (carb, always runs perfect) 11 250 TE/SMR soon to race (first FI bike ???)
Sucks, Husky offers it as a upgrade and want's us to pay for it. Last weekend I pealed off all the PCV/Auto-tune stuff in anticipation of the 2012 special parts "Racing Injector" . Well I installed the kit (12 port, Latest LEO ECU) today. The 250 rips now, and does not miss a beat, like it should have from the get go. The 2012 comes shipped with this set-up , should have waited another year... BTW my bike had a 4 port injector, seams the Euro bikes had a 6 ??? I have a PCV/Auto-tune for Sale?
I removed my stock ecu and replaced it with what looked to be the same part. Probably just a re flash. I removed my 4 hole injector and put in the 12. Took it around the block for a spin and all seemed OK. I need to hook up the Ibeat and see whats going on as I did not get that WOW feeling I was expecting. Will give it another test run later.
Never got the "Wow" factor, but did get what I expected the bike should run like... Nice to have removed the PCV/Auto-tune and all the wires etc. and have the bike run great.
Hmph. I just went through swapping my 4 port for the Kawi injector. Unlike you I did get that WOW feeling and more than I was expecting. In fact I think I got more of a boost than what I would expect upgrading to a 300 cc kit if it were made. The mid and top end was crazy. Flawless mixing. I could easily wheelie up hills where I never could have before. Flat amazing. What wasn't so amazing is the bottom end just off idle. I gained a huge hesitation. A completely unacceptable huge hesitation. I spent 12 hours with ibeat changing TPS and the CO numbers to try and work this out. Change after change after change. The kawi injector enriched up everything. My exhaust was sputtering some black out of the tip even. I kept leaning it out to the point of gaining popping on de-accel but the hesitation still remained. Im completely disappointed that I couldn't get this worked out, the mid and up was soooo amazing. I ended up re-installing the 4 port, resetting my TPS and CO to previous and my bottom end is back to fine. Its killing me knowing this engine has HUGE potential, like MX hitting power potential that I cant have. Later I went riding ST that had big switchback hills both ways and had problems finding the power even in first with the 12/50 gearing to climb them from almost a dead stop. rivers here.
Well I guess you get what you pay for $70 ? + 12 hrs tuning ? to fail ? I make $25 /hr and had no problem spending $380 for the kit (12 port, new Leo ECU) Husky Special Parts. This was a plug and play issue for me, bike runs great.
Better to have upgrade and pay , than not at all ...... 2012 TEs dont come with the upgrade only TXCs . I have fitted on TE310 and like you find it great ! I think you need Injector, ECU and Leo Vince Pipe to see full results . Like everything, you get what ya pay for !
Like mentioned before, you've already paid.....several thousand dollars/pounds/rubles/euros. Upgrade? No, it's a FIX that shouldn't be a monetary burden on a current owner experiencing issues trying to tune a bike with legitimate factory tuning software to fix a well known error common to many bikes from 2010 and up.
Good to hear it's working well, and there's nothing wrong with leaving it how it is but I can't help to think that now that the base line is sorted that the PCV could maybe make it even better? Could it be worth a quick try before you sell?
Agree to disagree I guess ! I think we could all find fault with every bike, car, truck, machine etc... in the world ! Some people will be happy, others will want to improve etc... How many bikes to you see with an aftermarket exhaust for example ???
OK, now !!! I bought the 250 for a "FUN" bike. When I picked it up all stock (powered-up) it ran great. The Leo and race ECU ran great too, if you ride it like race bike. The PCV/AT made it a rideable "Beer Getter" taking fuel out in the low end. Short Ride Report : Just putted around town with the SM set-up 13/40 gearing. Noticed a 510ish vibration on the bars "TORQUE". I use to have to rev it and slip the clutch big time with that gearing, not anymore. Still need to check the top, may take it for a freeway spin in a few.
Upper mid and top runs great (Freeway spin 65mph on a 250). The maps on the new ECU are spot on. Very happy, chime in if you would like to buy a PCV/Auto-tune.
Good to read your report. I'm probably going to purchase the "upgrade" in the next few months. Maybe I'll have to put my JD tuner up for sale if iBeat is enough to tweak the "upgrade" spot on the way the original equipment should have been. I miss my 510 sometimes, except when I'm picking up the 250 after a loss of talent.
I already have a TC250 pipe on mine....do you think I can get away without replacing it with the LV pipe?
No idea , sorry ! If you buy the kit from Husky you get injector, ECU and Pipe . Therefore it seems logical they are designed to work together ! Which they do, very well ! If you fit "half the kit" there is no sure way of knowing how it will work ?
Understand, but I thought I saw iT offered w/o the pipe......maybe I'll try it. The TC250 pipe is the same fibreglass pack and size as the LV...and it's Ti too. I'd have to guess it flow abut the same?
