I didn't have a paint code for the Husky blue, so I chose "sail blue" from Rustoleum. Got it at Home Depot. Used Rustoleum clear over teh decals and blue paint. I did this restoration on a limited budget. I might have taken my tank to a PPG dealer and matched the color and used 2 part automotive paint and clear coat, but that would have been close to $250 just for primer, paint and clearcoat. My Rustoleum paint and clear was about $15. Feel free to ask any questions during your project. Since I did mine, I've seen several 175 projects start up.

Nice. I don't come in this section often and just now see this. Owned one of these when where...ahem..."newish". My recollections: loved the handling after I learned to sit on the gas cap. My first Hooska after starting out on Japanese stuff. Was pitiful slow though. Had my local shop port cylinder to the Husky Bulletin and I think we took spark arrestor out and that really woke it up. Would out-drag race newer (78-79) PE175's of the day then. One of my bucket list builds would be one of these engines in a tricked out 77-78 CR125 chassis. Enjoy.

Update on my 175 project. I got to test my Amal carb cleaning the other day and am happy to say the 175 starts right up on the 3rd or 4th kick now. Much relief felt as I can feel pretty sure everything is about as right as it can be for now , at least. I chose Progressive shocks to replace the stock Girlings and am happy with them and their performance. I don't plan to race this bike and probably won't get to ride it as much as I'd like so the choice for rear shocks made sense for me. I also made some pre load spacers for the Betor forks also due to the fact I am a bit oversize for the original specs. There was too much sag front and rear since I am about 40 lbs over the original design rider weight... ( I assume 140 - 150 lbs).

Ok guys, I haven't posted in a while but here is my finished 175. It is as complete as I can expect it to be. Runs and rides great ! I have gotten a 1976 360Wr to add to my collection. Oh, did I mention my 1976 250Wr basket case ? Probably not - it will be a totally NEW thread. The 360 runs great as is ... it could be cleaned up a bit but it is stock ( except for fenders) and my newly added Mikuni 36mm carb.

Congrats on a great looking bike. Its an amazing transformation compared to the picture in your first post.

Do not be in a hurry to start it to see if it runs. Anything that has been idle for 35 years will have several dried out and leaky seals and gasket that will cause you to to seize the top end in short order. Air leaks are a killer.

Good advice. Strip, clean, reassemble, can save you hundreds of $$$.

Hi, great reconditioning work on your 175! Here's mine, '76 Cross Country? (5 wires off the mag and it had a headlight) I purchased it for $125 in the early 90's. It is a bit of a mutt with the wrong model tank, (a watermelon) different swing arm, (I think) and Fox shocks. Several years ago I cracked the clutch cover at the shifter and parked it. Never though I'd find a replacement but just recently I got a beautiful condition used cover off ebay for $90. Score! lol So I decided to get the old relic looking good again. It was running great when parked and presently the carb is clean as a whistle and the plat is still sparking so it should run again! Happy trails!
