Hello john these are some pics of my husky57 i just finished, the motor is a 77cr put in a 76cr frame i had to make the motor mounts.I ran into the same problem you did 2 bolt holes in the motor .I tried different mounts they would fit the motor but not the frame or viceversa luckily i work at a stainless steel shop so i made my own.The swing arm is a 79cr i moved the shock mounts back 2" to get a longer shock on it i might try 1" if this doesn't work but so far so good. The triple tree is 83" 40mm it works great. Is that banana swing arm factory or home made? If homemade what is it made from yr style, angle ect.I can build that.I put a longer set of curnutts on than whats in the pics and my seat hieght is the same as my 77360wr.I call it husky57 cause of all the different yr parts.good luck on your project.

Are those shocks 16" Gas Curnutts? They worked great on my MR250 back in the day. Wish Curnutt was still in business most days

Did you convert steering stem to taper roller bearings or did you setup the trpiles to use tha ball and cone the frame uses. I have 2 sets of 78 triple with taper bearing I was sure could be setup for the ball and cone races

    Tom,
Looks great, are you using a 79 CR rear brakes too, cause the 76 brake arm hits the swingarm when it depressed & won't work good enough.

The banana swingarm i have i believe is steel & has stickers on each side that say "Alloy something" it's worn badly so i can't read it.

I'm not sure how wild of modifications i can do & still make it vintage class legal so i don't want to build something i can't race.

Hello Jim they are 15" gas I replaced them with a set of 15 1/2" gas curnutts with a heavier dual spring set up I'm not as svelt as I was in the day so a little stiffer spring works well for me!As for the triple tree I had steel bushings made for the original top and bottom cone the ID of the bushing is the same as the stem of the 83" trip tree. the bushs are tig welded to the cones other wise they would probably come apart in the stem and that would not be fun to be on at the time.i knocked the bearing and race off the 83"stem cleaned it up greased it well and it went together fine.If you noticed the top bearing holder on the 76" is used here. The 76"stem is larger than the 83" so it just fits over the 83"stem then the locking nut from the 83" the top tube clamp then the top nut.I used the 83" because the handle bar mounts are set back so I can slide the fork tubes up.The bushs are about 1 1/4" long they cost me 100 bucks to have made which i thought was a little steep but when you ride it its worth it.In the mean time i found out a friend from work has a metal lathe so i might see if he can make them if i decide to do this again. Hey John The front and rear rims and hubs are off an 83" 430 if memory serves me right.I went that way cause i like the look of the sun rims and the bigger brake shoes and i got them for 50 bucks total.I put new shoes on them and i dont no why but when i apply the rear brake it feels like the pedal goes way past where it should then the brack grabs and you can feel the pedal floating so i put the 76" brake hub on the 83"wheel and it works great! I have noticed that the later bikes have a flat bar brake stay so i've made one i haven't put in on yet to try it.I've herd of a floating brake on later models is that what i got with the 83"rims?

The 83 WR wheel you used is not full floating. The CR rear hubs have the full floating brake plate. You can not even swap between hubs because the interface between the hub and brake plate is unique to the hub it mates to

On the CR hub the liner is above the wall of the hub and the correct brake plate face has a groove that sits over the end of the liner. A center spacer in the plate sits on the wheel bearing to allow clearnce between the end of the liner and the face of the plate groove. This plate is exactly the same as the SLS front backing for the 160mm brake hubs.

On the WR hub, the liner is recessed into the hub and the plate sits flush. The brake plate does not have a lug like the front plate, just a stud for the strap that goes to a bracket on about the midpoint of the swingarm

    Jim,
Actually you can swap the wheels, but..you can only put a CR brake plate on a XC/WR wheel without doing anything special. If you put a XC/WR brake plate on a CR wheel you need to add a spacer between backing plate & bearing. My 83 250CR has XC wheels on it, you do have very slight gap where the backing plate normally covers the hub completely, but both swaps can work perfectly.

Took a weekend off from working on the 76, as i swapped by 84 430XC for a titled 84 250WR & i had to get it look'n pretty for Snoops vintage ride on the 14th.
It has a bunch done mechanically to it, but really needed to be cleaned & polished up. Any way i knew it won't take much to get it up to my standard
of cleanliness. Pulled the plastic off, cleaned them with steel wool & pulled the stickers off, repainted rear fender loop, swingarm & fork legs. On went new
numberplate graphics & a nicer seat, few other minor things & you may not know it's the same bike.

My backer plate is the same as the one in the pic john just posted of his bike but i used the brake stay of the original bike i made a flat bar stay out of S/S i hope when i put it on it will stop the brake pedal from floating.

Read a MX action test on the 75 360CR this morning, and look how long the springs are on the shocks. The springs are almost the entire length of the shock
    body, probably 80% !, so a 13" shock was more like a 14.5" , i never seen a set like those.

Here's a couple pics from the issue :D Husky John 100_0832.JPG

For now i've throw on a set of 14" shocks & a 77? swingarm which moves the shock mounts back about 3/4" farther back then the 76 one. This seemed to balance out the front & rear better. 100_0845.JPG 100_0844.JPG 100_0846.JPG w Also threw on a replacement front wheel as the one that was on the was egged big time & different
    bars, levers & new grips.
Now i've got to get use to riding a bike with such little suspension LOL

I had to take it off, cause i didn't have a brake backing plate that would work, the stock (76) arm hit the swingarm. So i'll need to get
either a 78 or 79 CR one to work with the wheel i have.. Then again i have a 81 wheel assy somewhere, have to try that. Riding
season winding down, so they'll be plenty of time for sitting in the garage trying this & that :D
