Ok Rick.......details on the sprocket bolts and tell me where I can get them... size etc.. assuming they are stainless? Are you using the countersunk holes or the straight holes?

Black ano on the sprocket? Hardcoat?

I have one of those stickers Thanks HWY!:thumbsup::applause:

    HT,
Using the countersunk holes w/ flat head allens - 8mm x 50mm w/ 1.25 pitch. Stainless. Stainless short nyloks on the backside. (Would have liked to have used nylok flange nuts but they won't fit.) I get my stuff at a local (Dallas) metric bolt warehouse/distributor that sells to public.

Sprocket is a black ano. "Hardcoat"? don't know what that is. Sorry, I just don't know that much about the finish types. It is not real shiney like HWY's anodizing. More of a matte/satin black.

Would a 8mm x 55MM work with the flanged nuts? Or is there another limiting factor?

    HT,
Don't think the length of the bolt will be a problem. If too long, just cut off excess. Thats what I have done to most of mine. I don't like having bolts sticking way out past the end of the nylock nut.
On my hub, the flange nuts won't sit up in the area where the nut goes. The built in flange is the prob - not enough room.

Thanks for clarifying. What nut height are you using ? 8mm tall nut or shorter?

    Hey Schim.
Who are you using for your source for rear sprockets.
    Gotta have those countersunk screws.

Correct me if I'mwrong but a lot of guys seem to use the countersunk holes in the sprocket but with a standard shoulder bolt. Your other option is to use the standard holes.

I bought my sprocket from Phillip. He machines the bolt holes to a tighter tolerance for less slop. He did not have countersunk style bolts in SST last time I e-mailed him two weeks ago. Maybe now???

Sprocket specialists will also build anything you want.

I want a source for actual 316 SST bolts with Allen heads and tapers under the heads. Rick... if this is what you actually have, I am going to send you some $ and have you pick up 6 for me... I spent an hour looking through bolt catologs today and found nothing. I did find an alloy steel version... low strength and not right for a sprocket. If not I am going to use a Std SST 316 Socket head cap screw with Allen heads. Another alternate would be a SST ButtonHead Screw ( Allen Head) as well.

    Highdez,
Who else but Phillip. I've tried my local parts guy in the beginning for some aftermarket items and they were always wrong. Learned my lesson. Just go to the guy who has the right stuff to begin w/.

Bridgestone Battlax or Dunlop OEM Suzuki DR SM tires. What ever I can get a deal on. 120/70/17 front and 140 or 150/70/17 rear. Rear size has yet to be determined.

    Rear fender (prior post)
Installed. Even though the fender and underfender tail/brake light combo are done, its really just a mock up. Will be on and off the bike many times, I'm sure, while working on the seat.

I'm really loving this thread. The thought and effort that you're putting into this is amazing.:notworthy:
BTW when it comes time for a tire choice I would highly recommend the Continental SMs, they are specifically built for the lighter weight bikes and perform incredibly well.

Seat build (in a before, during and after format)

Played w/ the fender last wkend. So this wkend got to finish up seat build that I kinda got start last week.
Photos 1 and 2: What I got when I originally removed the seat cover back 7 or 8 months ago. Pretty chunked up. Its was either trash or a canidate for some surgery. I like surgery. Time to remove some of the excess.
Photo 3: Center and cut lines. Note removed foam at the front of seat - problem.
Photo 4: What I thought might just work. Cut the wasted part outs on both sides, slight round over on the upper edge and just recover - what could be easier?
Photo 5: What I got. Somewhat digging the slanted cuts (cut off the chunked area) of the sides of the seat BUT other issues not resolved maybe even exagerated: (1) still have lip on the top at the front (2) front of seat way too short (front of the foam had been cut-back and had a big gap btwn seat and tank) (3) way too soft (even my 155lbs. was compressing the foam beyond what I thought acceptable - felt like I was sitting in the seat versus on it) (4) just didn't like the overall round puffy look of the top. More cutting to be done.

Second go round w/ the knife on the seat foam and I can't post photos - what gives? I'll try tomorrow.

Still no go - "exceeded quota". Can't post up any more photos? HELP by management - please
