Chain vibrates like mad and generally flops around like the long string on a cello!

    Pic,
Don't all our drive chains (vintage or new) vibrate to some degree? It seems as though vibration is inevitable in any drive chain. Doesn't/wouldn't proper chain adjustment minimize the "chain harmonics".

Oh ya, they take a constant beating those chains. But on this particular bike it seems especially bad. Chain was adjusted the best way I know how: Remove shocks, put the C/S, swingarm pivot, and rear axle in a straight line, adjust.

These last few posts reinforces my belief that you can cheap out on some things, BUT chain and sprockets isn't one of them. Spend a little more on the front side for quality parts and reap the longterm benefits.

    AMEN to that Schim,
Go sidewinder or push it home.

    Krause racing rules!

I just ordered a set of titanium sprokets and chain.

Pricey but if it wears out they will send you a new one.
I am going to try my best to wear them out.

    Your bike looks super!
I have long range plans to make my 400 XE into a street legal Dual Sport.
I have a couple of questions:
What are you using to power the lights?
You stated 13/52 finial reduction, kinda low for street use?
    Looken good !

    Hdez,
Nice!! Post up some photo of your running gear when it comes in. Almost went w/ thoose cats, but ended up going w/ what I know (aluminum and DID).

    Fritzcoinc,
    Thank you sir.
Funny you should ask. Currently have an SEM ignition w/ power wire, but no spark. One of the "big 3 or 4" things left to address. I'm just hard-wiring the scoot w/ a car battery for now.

I got another sm geared for street use and its just not that much fun. Fast but no snap right off throttle. I'm keeping the Husky pretty close to stock to have some "fun" w/ the slightest twist of the wrist. HeHeHeHeHeHe!

Where do you get the rear fender holder thing, the loops that attach to the frame?

    edgo897,
Hall's Husqvarna, I think. They are listed in the vintage parts section. Husqvarna-parts.com (also in the vintage parts source section) may have them too. So far, Phillip at Husqvarna-parts.com has had everything I've needed.
I've also got some used ones from this bike. If interested in used - PM me.

    Highdez,
Moose product (85' and up - Moose part # MHU1 - search "before clutch cover" in the vintage section and there is a picture of it in the package) I got from my local parts guy.

    Motosportz,
Not yet. Scoot is still half dressed. Back up on the stand while wiring up for legal requirements - brake light, horn & headlight etc etc etc.

I can't wait to see what this beauty is gonna look like fully dressed. I think you need to call in sick at work so you can work on your bike full time. :D The suspense is killing us.

    Colo moto,
Love the avatar I'll take #3 - she's getting w/ it - my kinda girl (hope shes not your wife or daughter - if so I apologize and will take #2).

Can't call in sick - self employed - no work no pay no play (parts $). Do most of the work on the scoot during the wkends, but the last couple have been accounted for. Cowboys in the playoffs and Supercross on the tele. Cowboys got bounced so the wkends have been free'd up. Hope to get a little more done now that the home team is out.

    schimmelaw,

No worries, not my girlfriend or daughter. I found her on the internet. I'm willing to share though if it helps you finish that bike faster. :D

    [IMG][/IMG]

I hear you there. Being self employed sounds so peachy until you realize the hours suck, the pay sucks, you have to spend every waking moment with your boss. Ohh well, it beats working for someone else.

It is nice having some racing to follow again, although I can't feel any sympathy for you on the cowboy situation. I think every nfl fan either loves the 'boys, or hates them. They did look better than the broncos though.

    Flat bottom homemade skid plate.

Photo 1: Pre powder w/ center bash bar cut off and ends ground down. 1/8" aluminum stock drilled for mounting brackets and preliminary cut marks laid out. Though you can't see it, aluminum was slightly bent (my foot and concrete curb) to match slight contour of the bottom frame rails.

Photo 2: Parts. I love clean new parts. Aluminum plate after numerous mounting, marking, cutting, filing, edge sanding sessions and anodizing. Red anod aluminum conical washers. Stainless 8mm flat head allen mounting bolts. 8 large rubber 1/8" washers. Nickle plated and "Plasti" dipped mounting brackets that were found on ebay.

Photos 3 and 4: Mounted up

Pic # 2 4 tabs plastidipped. Did you buy the mounting tabs or did you make them yourself? 8 mm mounting bolts x 16.5?

How do you think this would hold up for Moto? Maybe a sst version for Vintage MX?

Honestly... I plan on copying you for my 390 project. That is one nice job! You get rep points on your "UserCP" !

    Foot peg question

Rick: do you have a detail shot of the footpegs with the mounting springs in place? I don't have anything to reference how the stock springs bolts and pegs mount. I need to see how the spring actually mounts. Does teh bulky ( three wrap section) go behind the rear portion of the footpeg?

I'm not good at Rubik's cubes either.

    HT,

Yea, I'll post a couple of detail photos of the footpegs here in a lil' bit.

Skid plate mounting brackets were sourced from ebay. Nasty prior to blasting and nickle plating. Bought what I found and worried about cleanup later. Mounting bolts are 8 X 25mm w/ 1.25 pitch.

Plate would hold up to moto use w/ no probs what-so-ever. If that was really a concern (extremely rocky, tree roots, major crashing etc.) I would go w/ 3/16" thick aluminum and extend the bottom outside of frame rails a little bit more. I got my material for free so not complaining and used what I got. SSteel plate might be pretty heavy and hard to work w/. Additionally, ssteel might (?) be prone to cracking/shearing.

Funny - Rubk's cube - my late granddad (a very simple man) could do that thing in about 5 minutes. Never understood how he did it so fast but he'd be grinning like a possum the whole time and just hand it back to me w/ a smile. Dang it - I miss him!

Rep point on "User CP" - whats that?
