I have never been able to make an exact anything. I love to ride and will probably put way too much time and money into it. HVA has a nice vforce reed block and if there is a better carb choice I want that. I could go on, all suggestions are welcome. Then ride the tires off. When I roll up on my friends in the field I want to hear OH SHIT!! I'd say Great rider, built to my taste, which unfortunately is top shelf. That being said, I'm selling a couple of my little bikes to make up for my lack of funding. I'm going to pull the motor tomorrow and put the bike in storage till I can afford it.

good bike to build as rider! (true with any 80s 250-500 swede imho)
there are some who like the 40mm, but i like the 38mm better for all around more accurate action. the factory also switched these to 38s when they went to single shock..
of course a lectron is always a nice mod too. keep in mind if you order a new carb-airbox boot, the 40 and 38 are different. when you replace the carb-intake boot, you will want the two piece similar to what phil sells. these pop up used too.

you can also run a 90s four stroke sidecover, which will give you a smaller removeable cover just for the clutch and a better kicker. here is one i ran on a bike years ago..

That's a nice option, the kick lever has a weld in the middle, shortened? What yr and model are those from? I could just use the shift lever I have:banana: , that would have people say OH SHIT! You call that a sight glass? 20140828_112700.jpg Now that's a sight glass!

ol mate years ago decided to become a husky dealer....first bike he got as a demo was a 83 xc 500....that kept japanese sales high that year:eek:..shocking bike and very poorly set up..he had no idea. motor mount bolts were spinning around, swingarm nut loose, it shook something horrible and had uncontrollable power.... sold it to a beanpole bloke who proceeded to crash it everywhere he went.... i hung out for the w/c 240 in 85

Took the motor out of the frame this afternoon, and found sadness. Carb is NFG, chunk missing from the right case front mount, rear mount sleeves are pretty loose in the cases, the output shaft spline is worn badly. Piston is 85.92, and I might get away with only a hone. The rod is not loose on the big or small end. Every inch of the thing has been neglected and needs attention. This is gonna be an awesome project. 20171019_170521_resized.jpg 20171019_170559_resized.jpg 20171019_170541_resized.jpg 20171019_171358_resized.jpg I'll pray when I open the cases, maybe a pot-o-gold in there. Time and patience will tell.

Are the cases aluminum? I have the material to weld that, I can only hope.

    they are magnesium...
the good news is that you can use any 400/430/500 air or liquid cases 82-88...250 as well if you mill the web from the crank (i kinda dislike it!)
or swap in any air cooled husky primary kick engine 250-500 with a pipe swap.

no weld on the kicker, thats just where it nubs something on the italian bike..probably a peg.
that is a pretty good sight glass! ive seen those on zrxes, amazing how many trick parts you can buy for those huh? makes the husky seem cheap!

Thanks justintendo, Seems like my top shelf is too high on this one. I'm starting under the laundry hamper. I'll scope for a new set of cases. 400/430/500 ac. As for LC 82-88, am I looking for the same cc as the ac and will that cover the cover and shifter and kicker you used to use? I'll get on it. I haven't separated the cases yet, and the output shaft is screwed, can is use another YR or cc shaft? Or should I be checking part # compatibility across those YRS for those cc'? Looks like I'm learning all over again. It doesn't matter what the name of the bike is, parts cost more when you see what you like!

small disclaimer on cases, the inserts for the swinger are different size ID for single and dual shock. i guess a sleeve could be used going one way but the inserts do press out.

I'll investigate the parts list and find what I need. I've got the manual and parts list so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
Yeah Mike D, just over the New Hampshire line. Your 430 looks great, I'll slough thru this. Thanks for the insight. Is that a new airbox?

If you need a pipe, I have one all painted up. The one in the photo is from a 500 which didn't fit my 430. I had to go with the HVA special! 17362004_10212734131687589_5626673035393719786_n.jpg
