I wonder if the trick they do with getting the white tanks white will work on these air boxes. After cleanup of course.

Rustoleum plastic paint gives a nice OEM plastic finish. I did my airbox for my 84 250WR after a nice cleanup

maico.jpg I just saw this on another site and am wondering, have I been doing it wrong all along? I always thought it was just to get over the compression stroke.

So I got the rotor removal tool from Husqvarna-Parts and was able to disassemble the motor. I found the main shaft 4th and 5th/6th dogs and the sprocket shaft 6th gear dogs and 3rd gear windows are worn and the 4th gear shift fork is as well. The motoplat cover has a crack, and the clutch basket looks like a mile of Mexican washboard. I got a replacement right side case(Thanks Justintendo) No cracks or seen problems with the kick start area either. Some pics.

I found a PVL ignition coil and stator that the guy says was out of a 1983 XC500. Did they have those in the stockers or could it be aftermarket? Think it has lighting?

I saw the Powerdynamo on the Husqvarna-parts site. It's out of stock. Pretty spendy too, I get the bang/buck but always looking for a deal. Thanks Jim. I'll keep scoping for one. I could use the 80-100 watts for lighting, charging my computer, electroplating my nuts/bolts, power a small railgun etc.

i think the problem with a pvl is little spark at low kick speeds... i.e. a 500..

super simple cases to split and work on huh?

I don't know a pvl from a can of track tension, that's why I asked. When I get the cash I'll probably spring for the dynamo. The 500 is pretty easy to disassemble, I made a new set of mounts to go on my "universal rotary" engine stand, so that helps as well. I shouldn't be working on this bike and I bought another for the hell of it. I got 2 wheel problems in my melon.

You need the heavier flywheel for easier starting and more torque at low rpm. The 500 would be a wheelie machine with the internal flywheel. I got mine from Halls Husqvarna in Illinois, can't remember what I paid. I've got a box of old Motoplats

I did not know that was an internal flywheel setup, I would rather have the external flywheel. But can I still have the extra electrons?

I'll call after the holiday and see what they have. They have the clutch basket, seals and a gasket kit too, so I'll probably get it all at once. My Christmas present to myself.

    It's old and crusty.

It's an early 70s Amen Savior frame. Both rear motor mounts are removable so that makes it pre 76.

Yes that's the plunger type rear suspension.
