1986 WR400 restoration

This is the parts bike pipe, I assume is original.

That looks like the right manifold, original screws and clamp.

That pipe is totally botched!

I've had 4 AE430's & not 1 with a pipe like this.

Yep thats the original, the billet 1 you saw is worth getting as I bought 1 & it worked great, trying to find the original type is near impossible.

both my 86 and my boss's 430AE (checked last night) 87 have that pipe. they are husky products pipes. mine is a mish mosh of parts 430auto/400wr. the spare pipe i have is husky products also. hand built tig welded, not stamped and mig welded. sorry no camera to take pics

i'll have a pic tomorrow once i figure out how to load it on here.

Looked at the cover more closely today, the clutch pushrod nut is wearing a hole in the sidecover. Odd thing is the clutch basket bolts stick out farther and dont seem to touch the cover.
Any ideas?

Here is the clutch rod adjuster nut, and bearing assembly. I have loosened the nut to show the shoulder area. How can the nut have any impact when the shoulder prevents contact with washer?
I noticed some wear and peaning of the pushrod on the inboard end.
I noticed some slop where the inner basket rides the circlip, maybe washer is worn allowing play? I dont want to re assemble without a solution.



As you can see the screw (allen head recess) and the nut, have bored a hole in the cover.

I can only hope someone else has noticed this and came up with the answer.

Last owner may have adjusted the clutch wierd or the adjuster screw wound out.
Am not seeing any aluminium on the end of the screw was the problem fixed by the previous owner ?

Where did you get rubber piece that mounts on billet section. I did not see listed on website.

It came as one unit, I'm not sure who I got it off but it was in the USA.

The new pump bearings went in today. A little heat on the case and in they went. The new oil seal on the outside seemed to stick up slightly, but it seemed the impeller has a relief cut into the backside for this. It all seemed a little stiff, bit I assume it do to it being new? Any thoughts?

I installed a new gasket, all seems good, new bolts for the water pump housing as the previous owner used something he found on his floor apparently.

My rokon project is done, so the wr frame will come in for the winter. Have some very loose spokes to deal with, as well as general paint and resto stuff.

Anyone know where to get a replacement intake rubber boot for carb? Mines cracked, usable, but looks crappy.

Or you can get a two bolt universal mikuni (VM) flange from a dealer. in the UK its www.allensperformance.co.uk
then you still have to find or make the billet peice.

You can get that through Sudco but likely have to order through a dealer

So, a husky dealer for the rubber piece. The billet section is aftermarket? What do I say the rubber piece is for? Is it a stock piece for another year? I guess I'm confused that the original is one piece, the two sections here are a mix of aftermarket, and something stock? I did see the rubber section alone on a website, but there were a dozen different sizes and bolt patterns? Thanks guy, just want to get the right thing.
