No, but if it helps, I get 75+ out of a 165 with lectron and IMS.

If you put the 06-08 tank on it you can run the newer shrouds. Frame is the same. But then you have to run the 06-08 seat too i think.

Mike you should get about 25-28 MPG with the electron. I forced my shrouds to fit because I would much rather have ill fitting shrouds than limited range and packing fuel. With my Lectron getting me fantastic MPG over the stock carb and my 3.5 gallon tank I am good for 90 or so miles which I love. The tank is slim. Stop worrying so much about looks and thing about functionality. You really want to pack gas on your back or worry about running out? Is it just the front high mount not reaching in far enough? If so I have some ideas for you.

06-08 tank requires mods to the mounting points IIRC.

The most significant problem with the tank is the upper forward shroud mount. Can I get it to fit? Yes, but the shroud points straight forward, while the right side fits normally (angled outward). If it was just a little it would be no problem, however it is significant. If there where more meat at the shroud tab, so I could drill it, that would be great, but there isn't...

One thing I have noticed with IMS tanks is that there are typically no two exactly the same.

They advertise something like 15% variance in roto molds.

Nice. May as well be a mile. I remember going through 3 tanks on my 03 KX before one fit.

Yeah the perimeter frames are more of an issue as some won't even fit down in the hole. My 04 IMS tank fits great, is EZ to get on and off but the shrouds don't fit well as the front tab mount is to far in on the tank. I made it work as I need the range and like the narrow big tank. I think tanks are a tough biz, some stock tanks fit like CRAP.

Graphics arrived today so I spent a little time in the shop installing. I wasn't sure I'd like them, but installed I think they look good. image.jpg

I do especially like the Motosportz logo!

Not sure I'm going to install the lower shroud graphics....

Looks great Mike, can hardly wait to toss it on the ground :D

WHAT! no blue anodized BRP triple clamps or powder coated hubs?

Also, should have moved the WB165 part back further as I have rubbed mine off with my knees.

Not to sidetrack my own thread but I am going to be working on another little project........the bike I sold to a friend with only about 100 miles on it, 7 years ago. I HATED this thing. It was a total step backwards from my '04- too tall, with a high CG. My buddy is 6'2" and thinks it is too tall. I really don't care for the 2005-2008 platform. Pretty much the same frame as '04 jacked up with terrible ergos and a higher center of gravity. I remember thinking my '06 YZ250 was absolute dirt biking nirvana after riding this pig. Glad my 165 is on the '04. 001.JPG

Does the older seat tank combo make the seat height any lower? Oops just hijacked your hijack, sorry...

Not sure if the tank mounting points are the same on the 05-08. The 04 does feel lower, and in my opinion, handles better. It carries the fuel lower and the seating position is a little lower. The 05-08 looks cool though. If it really is as easy as buying an 04 seat, tank, and plastics, that would be a good improvement- for me at least.

Maybe someone else could chime in here with info? Walt? Was it a straight up, no fab, swap?

Not a no fab swap. Tank mounting has to be re-done. Wasn't that hard but it isn't something that you can easily reverse. The basic frame is the same and the newer models have the rear mount screw but you have to cut off the post that comes up through the newer tanks and re-mount the rubber forward mounts lower. I thought it was worth it but not for everyone. It lowered the seat height ~1/2" maybe 3/4".
