raisrx251, Thanks for the quick reply, hope to have it for the next National Enduro. Injoyed your video, motor sounds good, What are your CO Values set at ? Are you still using a 50 tooth ? Just curious.

I am 2 teeth larger on the rear but now I can't remember if stock was a 48 or 50. Thanks about the video, unfortunately the sound in that one is from the stock exhaust. I was testing to see how it ran with the new ECU and stock exhaust. As far as CO settings I am still playing around with it to see what is best. I may rent a AFR analyzer to get the best settings so we know with this ECU. It runs fine at all 100 but at the end of the day I was trying a 105,110,100 I think.

How is the new ecu? does it fix the hesitation?

Yes, it fixes the hesitation. I wrote the part number down off of the new ECU as well. It is part number 8000H0596 . Now saying that it is not in stock here in the U.S. last time I checked so I have no idea how long you would have to wait.

Just looked at the ECU # on my TXC it's 8000H0596 came stock. Never new there was a difference, also never had a hesitation, my bike Hauls the mail.. Frame # ending in 4017.

Last I asked - the ecu's for the efi bikes, at least the TE/SMs needed to come from the factory because the vin number needed to be programmed into it.

    Don't know about the txcs.

There is something that needs to be done to link the ECU to the bike; I can't remember exactly what it was but I was under the impression that it could be done at a dealer rather than at the factory. Also I was told that it doesn't have to be done on the ECUs that come with the titanium pipes (at least the one for the TE450), only on the standard ECUs. It would be interested to know exactly how the link works...

Interesting that your ECU part number is the same. I never looked at the part number of the original ECU. I guess you better not order that then as it looks like they are just re-flashing the existing part number ECU's and not changing the part number. My new ECU does not have the vin number showing up in Ibeat. I also know the bike runs better off the bottom so it is definitely a different map.

My new ECU which came with the full titanium system for the 09 TE450 does have a VIN number showing in iBeat, but it's not the VIN for my bike! Since it ends in "000001" I'd guess it's just a default setting. Same thing with the engine number, which ends in "00001".

The ECU version is "E010R321" if that's of interest to anyone. I don't know what part number is marked on it so I've no idea whether it's the same as the standard one just with a new mapping.

There could be different 'levels' of reprogramming. Changing the vin number in the ecu is one thing, but it could take an entirely different software to change the other things in the ecu.

I seriously anything could be done to transform a stock ecu into the after market ecu that comes from the factory at least at the dealer level.

raisrx251, what is the # on your stock ECU ?

I just looked and it is the same part number, 8000H0596. I now think if you ordered that part number it would probably come with the same stock map. In other words the factory just took a stock ECU re-flashed it and put it with the kit.

I've just taken a screen shot from iBeat's "ID" page which I believe will show more relevant info than a part #. I'm going to post it in the EFI section for use of comparing firmware and performance and so forth.....

I want to keep this stuff separate from NC's post as it seems to be straying a tad from his ride report.

Mods, feel free to move as you feel fit if needed.

I don't want to steal this post from NumberCruncher but felt it would be best to post my first impressions here given the title. Sorry if I should of done otherwise.
    -----

I assembled the '10 TE250 on Friday and gave its first test run today.
First things first: Thank you very much to my dealer for letting me uncrate the husky and for spending almost 5 hours with him to build the bike. We went through every nut and bolt... the bike is race ready!
The bike and I are on the “stiff” side of things. The ground is still partly frozen and today was my first spin in 4 months. Nonetheless, here are my first impressions after riding it for about 10 minutes on the road, and about 60 minutes in single tracks.

    I LIKE:
+ I can’t believe this bike is street legal !
+ It turns on a dime (similar to my 250 two stroke)
+ It plows through nasty stuff like a locomotive (Better than my pumpkin). Twist the throttle to straighten the bike! Fun! Linkage?
+ Rear suspension is spot on for my weight 175lbs + gear
+ Best brakes tested so far... and they are not even broken in
+ Mid and top end are great. The bike begs you to be aggressive.
+ Everything seems to be in the right place. Super ergonomics.
+ Everybody found it sexy before it hit the trails!

    I don’t like:

-Its too loud without the DB Killer. Fortunately, the DB killer was in the spare parts box. The sound level is acceptable with the DB killer.
-I need a mid-pipe guard. I already burnt my pants.
-Bottom end sucks... I was expecting the front end to lift much easier. My FI settings are stock 100,100,100, no SA, DB Killer installed. I hope others are not lying when they say that the engine improves over time. My dealer will likely do Ibeat magic in the near future.
    - The return oil line sticking out on the right side of the motor is very bad engineering. It is out there begging to be snapped by a branch.

That's it for now. Overall happy.

Check out http://www.motosportz.com/HVA-SS/HVA-SS-Home.htm for a skid plate to protect that engine. P3 makes an excellent mid-pipe guard as well as a header guard for these new 250's. Not cheap, but good and light and WAY cheaper than a couple of pairs of melted riding pants.

I think the engine will improve for you over time + you will get accustomed to where it likes to be running for your riding needs. I'm "remapping" my technique to the 250 after coming from a 510. Completely different types of power. Have fun!

    OlivierTE250,

Can you tell me what all came with your "spare parts box"? Dealers here in Alberta are not saying anything extra came with bike, no "power up kit" bigger sprocket etc.. Thanks

In alberta they most likely come powered up from the factory.

the bike will become much faster with about 1-200 miles on it.

Mine was slow initialy...now I'd consider it fast.

The oil line is bad engineering...make sure it is tight as it will loosen and blow the 1qt of oil out of the motor in about 30 seconds...don't ask how I know!

I find the suspension a little too wallowy ...make I'm just too heavy @ 195#

That is very surprising. I uncrated the bike myself which came from the new canadian distributor (Barrett Marketing Group). Why would they hide this info? Bizarrrr

The spare parts box, inside the crate, contained the following (I may forget one item or two):

Brass plug for the O2 sensor,
Jumper resistor cap for the O2 sensor wire,
    DB Killer
    Filter cage.
50T sprocket (the bike came with the 40T !?!)
    Longer chain and chain clip.
    Mirrors
    Blinkers
A useless and tiny mid-pipe guard. Whoevery designed this part is a...
    Spark arrestor
Extension cable/plug which I think appear to be for the rear tailight set-up without blinkers (not sure)
    Leather key chain
A nice USB key 426page manual in 4 languages
A printed copy of the short version of the user manual.
    License plate holder

Let us know the end of the story. Good luck.

If you want, I can post some picture of my experience at the dealership.

    Thanks all for the reply.
I have been to one Dealer, talked to two. Both are unsure of these spare parts that the bikes come with, now that I have a list it will be easier to find out answers!!

Most of the early build TE250s are missing a lot of parts so dont beat up your local dealer too bad as the bikes they uncrated may not have come with anything.
