Great, thanks Cali :D i think your right. Basing it on the TC and sharing parts like 08-09 seems like it would have been cheaper.

California 'green sticker' program bet that is the reason its a duplicate of the TE in that config so they all pass under the same spec.

Yep, everything starts in Cali...mostly all the regulation stuff

So the TXC comes choked down so we Cali's can get a green steeker. Then you just remove the restrictive items and away you go, you have a real bike again :applause:

Kinda like the old XR650 days...they came with all that EPA stuff on them to make them green sticker legal...then you removed this, cut that, open this etc etc and you had a fire breathing Baja monster.

I've said it before. Kalifornia... the most beautiful state in the Union that I'm ECSTATIC I don't live in.

The California epa topic was only a guess on my part, it could apply to Europe as well, remember how they had a strange configuration in 2007? Euro 3 I think they called it. I don't know for sure what the reasons are. It could also be a future requirement or ease of production.

Thanks for the great write up raisrx251! It's kinda a bummer to hear they come so corked up, but I guess if it helps them sell more bikes somewhere, it's a good thing. It sounds though that once you got most of that stuff off the bike really came alive. I wonder if the PC V will work on this bike? hmmmm? Dang, I want one now.

so we got a txc 250 in today.it actually has the 40 tooth rear sprocket on it like the one at the dealer meeting in july.did not notice what the front sprocket size is.any one know what is up with the small rear sprocket???dan

Don't even try to ride that thing with the 40. Mine came that way as well. People on here came up with the idea of passing a drive by sound test. At least they give you a 50 tooth and a new chain.

A few other little things I have learned. The red lever actually raises the slide up for a higher idle. I am not sure if you would still consider it a hot start or choke. Maybe both. The first 5 gears are the same ratios to the TC except the TE/TXC get a longer extra 6th gear. At first I was wondering if this was a good thing but after the one ride on the bike I really did not need a lower 1st gear and it is usable. Anyone else out there get one yet?

There is a rider with a TC250 that thinks 1st is too tall for tight woods. I'll keep an eye out for your posts as I need a really low 1st gear for the woods of the PNW.

I'm thinking that with the taller 6th you can run a larger rear sprocket and still not scream it too bad on the road sections. So it could be geared lower then the TC. I really don't like a real low first in the NW as traction suffers but I am a 2t rider and used to lots of clutch action so maybe that does not work as well for a 4t.

Is there any reason to buy a TXC over a TE now? If the performance is the same I think having the plate would make the TE the obvious choice.

Well the only things that come to my miind is the TE would require you pay personal property tax, DMV reg. fees, lic. plates, carry MC insurance, and maybe get a few wheelie tickets. I did get to see and feel (in the showroom) both the new TC250 and TXC250 and they look awsome and feel very light.

The TXC has the closed chamber forks and does not have all the wiring on the handlebar as well. TE you get a tag.
