I never run my oil outside of the manufacturer's recommended ratios. I've been running Motorex for ten years now at 60:1 in my cross country bikes, 50:1 in the small bores, and 100:1 in the trials bikes. My engines run clean, and for a long time.

I'm not sure what your point is here. Are you telling me that it makes no difference to your engine if you run less oil? Your weed trimmer and chain saw information kind of through me off.

The manufactures recommended ratios are based upon the jetting which comes with the motorcycle at the time of purchase. As far as engine life is concerned, the manufacture does not have the customers best interests in mind. I know you have changed your jetting since purchased, even carburetors a time or two away from manufactures specifications. Regardless, I was only try to help you gain engine life, not trying to gain your business.

Well, yeah. My 300 would have blown up quickly, regardless of what kind of oil or ratio I was running, with the jetting it came from the showroom with.

More oil = better lubrication and ring seal. 2 stroke bottom ends only get oil from the gas so more is more, less is less. Bearings work by hydroplaning on a layer of oil. Less is less. Pistons slide on a cylinder wall on a film of oil. Less is less. I like to run more. I do full synthetic amsoil at 40:1 no matter if it is good to 100:1 or not. More oil is more lubrication no matter how you slice it.

Yeah. Less is less and more is more, but not all oils are created equally. I win.:p:banana::applause:

    Nope.

    - More good oil is more. More bad oil is more. More is still more. Less oil is less oil if it is better or not. Sure better oil might let you get away with less of it but it is still less lubrication. Period. Your bike do what works for you but my bike is getting more.

im sayin i think we could all safely use less oil if a company like Amsoil can make an oil that will keep a chain saw alive [when was the last time you didnt have your saw pinned WFO] then do we need twice as much to keep are bikes alive?????has anybody done any real testing on this since the advent of ceramics a hi end synthetic oils??????

I've had my 300 for a whopping five months now and it seems like I've tried every two-stroke oil made thus far.
I like the Maxima 927 at 40:1. The smell reminds me of the good ol' days. :D To the point... I think it may even kick start better when I use it...:oldman:.

32:1 with good jetting will never ever hurt a bike. 60:1 has potential for damage; 32:1 doesn't.

Bean oil smells good, also the highest hp.
More oil = more compression = better starting. Also, add an iridium plug which helps with the starting and they last a really long time.

Pretty happy with my tune now, I am now at 40:1 and I have the mikuni as good as I can ask for. Easy starting, running clean and strong but will try a different pre mix oil as I'm still getting excess oil out the exhaust. It's beginning to loosen up a little more, it now has about 250km on the odometer.

Are you at sea level? I switched to white 3 and 410 main for elevation above 5,000 feet. Might try white 4 due to warmer temps. Adjust main only if hot weather or you ride often at 5K elevation or above. I ran 32:1 with spooge on white 4 and a 420 main. Switched to white 3 and 410 main with same ratio and no spooge. IMO, the JD kit is very precise.
