You guys have a good time this is one of the best places to ride. Just wish there was some way to move it just a few miles north into the USA Have some good old wet fun and report back
Thanks for packing the bikes Steve! see you Friday. We drove past Shasta a couple weeks ago, it is insane how it looks with no water. Going to be some thirsty Californians soon... and the rest of the states may go hungry. Later,
Coming down (either tomorrow after work or early Sat morning) to serve as the (un)official Husky Support Crew. Just look for the Green Explorer w/Cali Vet plates.
Just texted Jake. He finished but had to use a vise grip for the throttle for the last 10 miles as the throttle cable broke.
As always, Rocking the 2014 Los Ancianos Tecate Enduro with ZipTy-Tista. Usually Robert is blowing up my phone by now, must be recharging after what was serious business out on the trail yesterday!
Your boss Ty passed me with vigor all day long, humbling watching these guys steering with the rear through every corner!
checking in Jake big hats off!!! mini vice grip throttle gets the finish. times were a little tight. I made up good from lunch to reset at the first check into ST after lunch, I did a quickie at lunch and was thankfully helped by Ty D (not Davis)and Tim doing my goggles and gas. went in to 3rd loop first ST on time, on 1 and 2 caught up to pals on minute in front but on loop 3 they pulled back that minute plus and beat me again!! some wicked sections. PS used my Xbrands with blue lenses and was super happy with them. bike worked great all day, had some worry in the morn with possible lean spot. I made a spectacle of myself at the start......bike would not start!! got her going and caufght back up to my guys but in front of everyone I goofing around off to the side.,....more stories to come Mission accomplished 10th 50+ open from 73 starters (biggest class), Jake is probably top ten in 30+ class. Colorado, Mexico and PNW represented big time!! Ian Blyth P1 OA, Ivan Ramirez P2, Brandon Prieto P3. Ty abandoned after falling ill during the ride. (does that mean I beat Ty Davis?) Also for my crew I was the only finisher...the fast guys in my crew faltered. felt bad for Cyril (FRA)....houred out at like 90 miles final check.... The finish was a special of flowing black chocalate dirt that was hero dirt railing city, and I just really hung it out big time coming in, after the beat down the ending was a refresher!!
Ian Blythe is our local! Awesome that he finished like that. Time to do one of his classes lol Top 10 finish for you rob, sure that made the trip even better why wasn't the bike starting? Bet you were stressing lol. Great job picking it up regardless, especially on beating Ty Davis
Second loop was full of carnage; bikes tipped over, bikes upside down, bikes over heating, guys cramping, failed work around attempts, just a war zone. Third loop was much cleaner and less drama on those parts. Oh and that last 6 mile check I swear was 15 miles or longer
Was it Ty or Larry Roeseler that Dnf? I heard Larry but if it was Ty then I have to change my story about beating Larry in the race
I saw LR come in at the finish, Ty was in civvies and said had had bonked out on L2 Not 10th OA....10th in 50+ class, most likely at the lower end of the OA list.
Colorado represented big time, wait for official results, 2nd 50+ was a Co. guy as well Im fairly certain
OK quick side story coming out of post L2 lunch break..... barb wire high fence on left big ditch area lined with local folks cheering, watching, and viddying and picture taking. I came out ditch to do high speed wheelie drifted to left people were sent running as I bounced off one of the fence posts and saved it, after nearly ripping my foot off.....dumbass move. foot is super sore today. luckily i caught my peg and not my bars..Im sure my day would have been done if I augured in at that speed....
all 3 loops different. we left from base at Rancho Santa Veronica, to first gas in a field went out from there to L2 returned to same field for lunch and fuel then went out on L3 for return to RSV and finish.
All 3 were different. 1st was tight with minimal tech; 2nd was more techie and boulder-y...think of riding up narrow stream beds, third was tight and technical boulders and then opened up with some cool rock slabs. One was maybe 15 feet high, pretty cool terrain. Third loop was definitely my favorite.
