OK, complete newbie question, So I get the part about having to join AMA. Even know that you don't HAVE to be a competition member to race, but you get the dirt oriented magazine if ya do. So, do you need to also join D37 or do you automatically become a member because that's our local district?

I know there's at least a few seasoned racers saying "what a effing stupid question!:banghead:"

Yes, you need to purchase a district card as well. Your number is assigned with your district card for $5 or not sure about pie plate rules, trying to remember..

OK, I did some more checking. If you want to enter in something other than sportsman and earn points, you need the D37 desert comp license. Newbies like me who enter sportsman just need AMA.

There you go, easy. I have always had the competition AMA card, so I wasn't sure if the regular one would let you race

If you just want to Race the Nationals You only need a AMA CARD No Dist card needed. If you want to race a Dist 37 Race and receive points you need a Dist card other wise you can pie plate and get no points. The hosting club charges 10 dollars more if you pie plate a dist 37 race but the Nationals are run with the regular Dist Races but are also separate.
After 20 plus years of having a Dist 37 Card Last year I did not have one and do not plan to get one this year. I race the Nationals. If I do a Dist 37 race I pie plate. Long story why but that is what I do. So to answer your question you do not need a Dist 37 Card to race a National If you race a Dist 37 race you can pie plate if you want

I will also be out at the KOM sight doing a little testing this Saturday

you are really going to love the Nationals A finisher pin from a National is better then a trophy at a GP

That's very nice of you too offer John. I think that since I applied for my license as Sen Hwt Beg it means I would only ride one loop (loop 2 according to the flyer). Not 100% sure I'll be entering though. Need a new rear tire and to recover from this cold that's had my ass for over a week. I do think I'll come out to at least see what's up, visit friends, meet new ones, etc.

Just the idea of committing myself really helped me feel better yesterday! I'm stoked and my lady is totally on board.

I was dead last in my class my first few races. Still not fast but better lol. Just get out there and do it. Only thing i regret is not doing it sooner. Convince a friend to race with you or meet upwith someone here because youre going to want to talk about every section you went through lol.
