Bummer/yikes. Never seen that happen in years and years of MX where any debris was sucked into the carb through the vent tubes. Were your vent tubes ever under water/mud where they could have sucked up debris? An offroad enduro friend who seems to really know his bike prep for nasty conditions always routes his vent tubes, except the float bowl overflow, up underneath the tank and if possible into the steering stem. Since meeting him several years ago, I have run mine on other bikes into the steering stem where the air is clean. On the TE300, I have them run all the way up the frame backbone and then turning backward, taped down onto the top of the backbone, since they can't go into the steering stem. This makes them as high as possible to protect against water intake as well as dust.

I rode a dr 400 that would stall as soon as you went into water. the vent hoses when closed off would create a vacuum in the carb and flood the engine.

My carb hoses were just hanging down in the stock position sitting in the bash plate. Yeah I have been riding lots of wet deep sections and this is the first time any thing like this has happened.
I have since routed my top two vent lines up under the seat and pointing down and covered them with a small bit of an old air filter. All the other lines are left hanging. I was under the impression I only had to get the top lines up and out of the way , but maybe I will get the other two higher and leave the drain line hanging low ....
I have a new needle in and also a motion pro throttle cable which is a tad longer.

Top 2 pointin upwards fine, 1 would do it but if wanted to make submarine/dust proof all up into airbox or headstem with filter over ends

Most install a tee fitting on the vent lines and run one down and one up into the air box. Creating a snorkel effect. I did this with my lectron as well as with the stock carb.
Fish tank air line tees work perfect and are inexpensive. Wally world has them but any decent pet store will carry them. My 2 cents worth

Very interesting. I have had this same thing happen to me recently twice. I do ride through a fair amount of sandy creeks. Going to inspect my carb and reroute my vent hoses.

Same thing happen to me on my 16 te 300 throttle stuck up 2 twice, checked everything... found the needle w/larger scratches and grooves and nicks. Added a 7602 carb vent filter.
