Lots of my KTM bros still fondly talk about the KTM 400 single cam being the best motor.

Wow 235 wet with skid plate, lights etc. Nice. I'd love to ride one. Neg, cost to much and does not hold enough fuel.

While I get your point about carbs there are actual runnability differences and sometimes the carbs, especially in slow going, are better.

Carbs are great for a bike like a DR650 when you plan to take it deep in the bush on a long trip with many miles. Less parts to break and easier to repair. They still have a function even in 2015. Imho

yes, but aren't you comparing the Husky enduro range to the KTM MX range? that's apples and oranges, the FC husky range make more power than the FE so how does the KTM SX-F compare to the FC?
And your comment about different (bigger) head on the KTM i'm guessing is on the SX-F compared to the husky FE ?

With the Huskys, it is comparing apples to oranges, but shouldn't be. And that's the thing right there. If you compare the 350exc to the 350SXF, there's a 5 hp difference. I make up that with just fuel mapping on the exc. I can't do that on the Husky's. It is more than just the different heads, its a lot of things. I try and I do end up making the Husky 350s pretty zippy, but it's still apples and oranges.

Our FC's should be every bit as powerful, if not more since it is supposed to be the "premier line" to the SXF's and they are not. They may have changed in 2016, tbd. According to MXA, the FC350 and SX are nearly the same in peak hp. They said the very same thing when comparing the 450s, but I can attest to the fact that this is not the case. In fact, the FC450, even race modified, cannot match a stock 450SX. To me that is down right disappointing. And why should a 500XC-W be any more powerful than a FE501 non-s? Seems like we are always getting the shit end of the stick. Joe Pesci comes to mind here. Thankfully we're a bunch of tough hombres, us Husky people, we always come out shining.

If there's a 5hp difference between the KTM 350exc and 350sxf, is it fair to say the HP difference between the FE and FC is roughly the same?

It seems to me your comparison between the SXF with the "bigger head" in comparison to an FE should really be a comparison between the SXF and FC, in that comparison i suspect both MX versions get the same head?

And then there is the EFI\ CARB forum here .. Nothing much in it about CARBs ... EFI takes the entire cake there pretty much. About every fix starts with a 'reach for your wallet' moment also ... That is 100% ok for a luxury device such a motorbike and another reason many do not want a efi 2t bike..

I'd say purchase the big one HuskyFly for no other reason other than it is bigger ... Most people don't regress on bike sizes till they get old ... Are you old yet?

    yes? no?

i'm not trying to start an argument here, i'm looking at buying an FE350 and i'm trying to understand the differences you're talking about before i stump up my cash...

With that logic the FE350 and the 350EXC should be the same. When purchasing, the main thing you want to ask yourself if you want linkage or not and if you do, is it acceptable that you loose a few hp. If you are buying the Husky because you are a die hard fan, then there is no question. But if color is no matter and you want the best bang for your buck, orange is still in the lead as it has been even when blue was Husaberg. Not saying the Husky is a bad bike to own, with a few tweaks, just as they did to the Husaberg, the Husky moves right up to position with orange.
