Gas trap pic.... I converted it to expand our engines capacity . I think it will work , just need to figure out how much oil you need it to hold and keep the oil pad about 3-4" below the the enter point.

    A vertical sump works best.

Haha Angry oil! Sweet, thanks! Thats how Husky does theres. My new design uses a different type of baffle, in theory, atomized oil gas will condense on the new cooling baffles, therefor yielding more return oil and less reburned.

Yea but atomized oil is good for the valve guides and in time builds a carbon layer on top of your piston increasing compression = more hp haha

I couldn't find in any of the pics how they did it like my picture. I seen the pic of the SM rider with some sort of inline chamber that looks like if any oil made it in there the case pressures would just adjitate any oil in there. The xlite frame chamber looks like the breather is angled at the air box return line , bothe designs are bad for blowing shit loads of oil out the breather and reclaiming it :)

Nice fit, doesn't extend past casting on the inside, plenty of room.

Remember than for every 10 feet of vertical water pressure equals 5 pounds of pressure so adding tones of oil to the engine will not add any significant case pressure as long as the excess oil can escape threw the return line back into the auxiliary oil tank or second stage dry sump really fast when starting bike :)

The hole is already there and the fitting is through. I scheduled shop time for Friday, I will weld in then. I picked up the 304 stainless tubing for the drain back this morning.

I was able to pick up most of the parts today @ Malcolm Smith Motorsports for the breather, new sight glass, gaskets, return line, etc. Alexander Smith was able to help me research a mounting bolt for the breather bottle which he poked fun at me with because I ended up buying a KTM bolt. Haha. Had a long pleasant conversation with Alexander and his Dad about the future of Husqvarna, there is much optimism in regards to that, I agreed.

Something else to look into in the future is relocation of the breather entirely. Alexander and I both agreed that moving the breather vent to the valve cover would further remove hot gasses from attacking the torque limiter and help prevent tip over spillage. I will look into a suitable location on the valve cover in which to pull vapor from later.

So you are thinking plugging the present breather and pulling from the valve cover? sounds good in theory. My set up has worked great all season and just put it on my 2013 for ice season and so far so good...... I think there is 100 ways to solve this problem and everyone likes trying it with their own twist.

Yes, plugging the existing breather hole. The problem is that ignited fuel from the back of the piston flows down and out the breather when wide open. The issue with this is that before blow by can go out the breather, it must pass directly through the torque limiter. This anneals the spring plates and gears on the torque limiter. You either A) begin to loose tension and start slipping your limiter (which is what happened to Ty Davis and his racing team) or B) it fly's apart and takes out the whole engine (which is exactly what happened to Alexander's 511).

So regardless if you have a breather bottle or not, you are still left with the issue of the stupid torque limiter. If I can modify the valve cover to vent the blow by and plug the breather hole, then the torque limiter can remain under oil where it can be cooled. And then all will be right in the world and unicorns will fart rainbows.

Tinken, you have me worried. PMd you on this subject. I only have a couple hundred miles on my 13 TE449 but I did have an incident of overfilling the oil and getting the nice oil treatment to my boots, pants, engine, etc. Lets talk some reality here. Me as an average joe blitzin down route 129 (tail of the dragon) am I gonna smoke this damn torque limiter or are we talkin about someone like Lettenbichler beating on the bike at Erzburg? I want to get a bit more oil capacity if I can but I dont want a garbage burning flux capacitor mounted on my bike either.

I spent the entire day today with Ty Davis building my new breather, which in fact is already outdated and I haven't even mounted it. Ty and I pulled 449 cases & cylinder heads once more to figure out oil and air flow routes. We have decided to prototype a brand new valve cover for the 449 and end the torque limiter issue once an for all. We will be increasing the oil capacity and tip over oil loss will be a thing of the past.

Other improvements coming include fixing the gas tank on the 449 without having to buy an expensive aluminum part from Husqvarna. And we are making new state-of-the-art shifters for the 449/511 which will never strip out. These will be available from Hall's Cycles.
