    Pretty hard choice for sure.
If you have the extra cash the Husky is your choice hands down.
If you are not sure yet...keep reading some of these threads.
Lots of good info on all. (although they might be a little bias)

Remember knowledge is a powerful tool when choosing the perfect Ride.

Edit: Best way of coarse like you're doing... go test ride one first.

Jesus would smack you on the hands with a ruler for your (lack of even a) half-hearted attempt at proper grammar and punctuation.

Then he'd buy the Husky... 'cause it's made by Roman Catholics, who as we all know, make better bikes than Buddhists and Shintoists.

Hi bullygrip I'm Rajo, one of you're friendly neighborhood moderators. I moved a couple of you're posts from the introductory to the 610 thread where they might get a bit more attention.

To answer you're question about which to choose it would be helpful if you could give us some info about you're self.
How long have you been riding and what kind of riding?
What is you're height and weight ?
What do you plan to use the bike for?
You know a few things like that can help us make informed comments.
For a general overview to get you started.
The DRZ Suzuki is a very nice bike for a entry level rider or for someone that just wants a nice trail that is street legal. They can be made to per form well but to much modding affects their durability.
The 610 Husky is very much like the DRZ in character but it got a major dose of steroids. The DRZ has about 38hp stock while the Husky has about 52, about $400 can bring the Suzi up to around 46 hp and that same money will plant the 610 firmly in the 60hp range. The 610 has better suspension right out of the box. They both weigh about the same but the Husky carries it's weight a little lower so it feels lighter when you are moving. I guess the best way to think about it is that the DRZ is like the 610's little brother.

My first thought would be - 5 speed closer ratio gearbox on the drz400 (similar to a crf450x) vs the uber wide 6 speed gearbox of the 610 (much like other dual sports & crf230f).

The drz400 can be geared to go on tight trails or the highway, but not do both well at the same time cause it would either be buzzy on the highway or need much clutch slippage in the tight trails.

If you are looking to put a lot a miles on as a commuter then the drz is tempting. If you are looking for something quite versatile then the 610 is tempting - to me.
  10. What Coffee said + what Rajo said reference much better suspension on the Husky.

Don't get me wrong, Suzuki manufacturers a great bike but the Husky, IMO, is a cut above.

You might be shocked by how little you can buy a SM610 for in Riverside, CA (O.T.D.). I wont say what I paid for mine last weekend but make a offer and don't change it, thay want to sell thw 08"s on the floor:cheers:

    Apples & Oranges......................

I've owned both, and enjoyed both.

In the end, however - the DRZ 400SM just didn't have enough motor for a big guy (6ft.240lbs.) like me. It needed to be WFO wherever it went.........and all that winding it up got old.

The Husky 610SM, on the other hand, has enough motor to be a satisfying ride for an experienced motorcyclist like myself. You can actually ride it around without feeling like you have to wring it's neck constantly.

So - your physical size, your riding style/needs, and your pocketbook are all factors..............sounds like you've got a decision to make. :D

    Gererally speaking:
If you're a relatively large person - I'd nix the DRZ.
If you want to run a lot of miles at highway speeds - I'd nix the DRZ.
If you're a small person - DRZ could work.
If you're mainly going to urban commute daily - DRZ could work.
If you like some Hoss Power w/your SuMo - get the 610.
If you can swing the $$$ - get the 610.

They're both good-looking machines (but personally I think the 610 wins the beauty contest):

Buy what you can afford,......but the Husky would just be so..much more fun. :applause::applause::applause:

I know that here, some guys buy the Suzuki DRZ400 because it cost less to insure than the Husky 610TE. The same would be for the SM Bikes. (Insurances rates jump once you go over 400cc's.)

Yea, test ride both Bikes and see what you think.

As far as what would Jesus do? He rode a Donkey, which was the best back in the day. So, he would get the Husky. :D

guys thanks for all that advice, to answer a few questions about my riding needs. I have a truck that I "could" take to work. But I think I would prefer to have a bike that is reliable enough for an everyday commuter. I live 2 hours away from the nearest husky dealer. I originally thought the 610 would be best, but since the 510 or 450 is cheaper AND lighter, I am now considering one of those as well. Would a 450 or 510 be completely insane to use as a commuter? And is it true that checking the valves on any three of these bikes is way faster and easier than a DRZ

I ride a 510. I did not get it to ride to work. But I do now. My work is 20 mins at best. All in town. Which would be under 50 mph.
This bike will do 50 mph all day but I would not want to be on it all day:D
The 610 would be a better choice for a commuter I would think.
Maybe with a softer seat too.

I'm a strange person in some ways. On purpose I choose certain things and designate them disposable then don't worry about them, as an example I had an old Geo and used that to keep the miles off the newer vehicles.

You did not say how far you were commuting but it is possible the drz is a better choice if you don't want to worry about the bike as much, they do last a long time. Of course the 610 does too.

The 250/450/510s... are not designed to be used as commute bikes and will never last as long as a SV650 for instance, and it does sound like you want a commuter bike. The 610 and drz would be far better choices, there are several things that make them more road worthy and those things do add to the weight. I believe cush drives, and counter balancers are are on the 610/drz but not the 250/450/510 for example. Weight is your friend on the street.

There is a video of how to check valves on a 250/450/510 in the Tech Ref section. The 610 is a simple screw adjustment but getting to the screws takes a little work to move things around to get to them.

Think about which bike will have you saying Hail Mary's when you crack the throttle.
    Husky yes
    Suzuki No
