No I don't believe I've been on a DRZ forum Muddywaters. The only problem I have with the 08 bikes are the problems some members have reported. Has the factory been trying different solutions (during) their 08 model year bikes? Or is everyone having to wait for 09 to see any changes in the efi? anyone know? You guys are the best man!

I think the 09 has a couple of different things, but not sure on bike specifics.
09 has different EFI mapping. (not sure if the 610 is part of that.)
09 SM and TE 610 has Upgraded 50 mm Zokes (Forks) not 45 mm any more.
09 has wave rotors and black rims, but not sure on bike specifics or for the SM.
09 has a lighter frame, but not sure on bike specifics.
I think this covers most of the TE/SM models.
    Others? Please chime in.

I've got one of those 08 EFI's and I'm not sure as to what EFI "problems" you're referring to?
Can anyone enlighten me on this subject? :excuseme:

How come you haven't asked the sUZUki guys on their take?
If you're interested in a DRZ you might as well hear what they have to say, no?
Don't be content with just one side of the story.......Them are people too :D

I have an 08 610TE and have no problems with the FI. :excuseme:

I have read what PALMER84ONE has said about the 09's, but I have not seen one in the flesh yet.

I've looked into the drz's, thats why I'm leaning towards a 510sm or possibly a 610thanks for the info guys. Im in the bay area and I'm looking for an 07 or newer 510. I'll go to munroe motors and ride both the 510 and 610.

He would buy a bike that was blessed by the Pope.
If you don't know that would be a Guzzi, Ducati, MV, Vespa, Husky, or Aprilia.
There are others but Bishops take care of those.

I had a DR-Z400SM that I put about $2000.00 into. I added an FCR39 carb, Hot Cams Stage II intake and exhaust cams, a full Yosh RS-3 system, a DR-Z400E base gasket (raises compression to 12:1 from 11:1), braided SS Fastline brake line, Kick starter conversion, EBC Brake Pads, DRC tail light, defeated all the interlocks, Pro-Moto Billet kick stand, Clarke 3 gallon tank, and I changed the fork and shock springs. At the end of the day I had a well handling slow bike that was nice.

Shortly after getting the DR-Z finished, I bought a KTM 525 SMR. It was a 70% better bike from the start for riding on the track. I sold the DR-Z, unfortunately the KTM liked to be worked on, so I traded it on my DR-Z70.

So far, the Husky has proven to be what I wanted with the DR-Z400SM, a bike with some power that is usable in the real world and on the roadrace track.

Rev light on the Husky 610

If you're saying that the overrev indicator light is coming on to early then what probably happened is that when you reset you're service light you also adjusted the alert RPM. The light is adjustable but it is kinda tricky. I don't have my service manual with me right now but if you don't find any info I will look it up later.

I've been doing this same price comparision. It's more than $1,600 now since HUsky's went up about $900 last year. The difference is more than worth considering, it just might turn my 610 into a 400. Just my .02, but since the price hike, it's not a wash anymore.

I just went on the UZU site; the Zsm is now $6699, didn’t see any changes that will make it a better match to the 610 (like a sixth gear or bigger displacement not to mention the undeniably ridicules amount of good old fashion nasty sexiness that pours out of every inch of the 610sm….:D)
However the Husky getaway site did not put prices for all to see soooooooo…….

How much do the 610 cost these days???

    My experience

Obviously a different area and so different results price wise. I have seen the 2008 going out for around $6700 brand new in a couple different dealerships across the US and there isn't any difference between them and the '09. I had to do the same compare between the DR and SM myself, this is how it broke down for me.

    2009 DRZ400SM - Best price I could do out the door local - $6700
2008 Husky610SM (new, in the crate no less) - $7600 out the door.

    Husky 577cc 55hp - DRZ 400 33hp
Husky Fuel Injected - DRZ carb
Husky Brembo's steel braided line - DRZ not Brembos
    Husky 6 spd - DRZ 5spd
    Husky 314lbs - DRZ 321lbs

For the $900 buck difference it was no contest for me. The final straw after looking around was this. The DRZ's are already pulled from the market in Japan, the UK and Europe (check the huge thread in I believe Thumpertalk). They are being cleared out of stock in the US and Aus.

There is something new coming to replace the DRZ although no one is sure what, a 450FI from their ATV? 6spd? Whole new bike? Lots of intrigue but no solid answers. Bottom line was the DRZ is old tech and is being mothballed and they were asking nearly the same as a vastly better equipped 610SM. Just my .02, YMMV.

Yep when it comes right down to it the 610 is a heck of a bargain. You would have to spend a couple thousand more to get something else at the same level.
