I'm in when the machining starts.. A new thread might bring some new light on the subject be better to follow,, just a thought.
sorry for the delay! yes progress is being made will start a new thread to make things simple for those who are interested
yea i need one for my 07 610sm.... its leaks from the cap when i do wheelies and gas starts to run down the sides of my fairings.. please build me a better cap!!!
Ok, so things have gotten bumped around quite a bit lately with the fuel cap project! happy to say were underway! i have the blanks cut and were ready to start making chips! it will be difficult to hammer out exactly when they will be done, but a few weeks is pretty realistic. i will be looking through this thread and my PMs to try to get a count of def orders. im thinking that it will be a kit with the cap and base, orings, vent with breather tube, and the plugs for the front side factory vent tubes. i will be able to do colors of anodizing(black and clear). ive mentioned that the price will be in the $100 neighborhood. i will have a final number after i do some more math. so i thought it would be cool, and maybe other may enjoy to see pics of the process along the way. this is real proof that the USA is still manufacturing! The sample cap i made is a little bit mis- representative. i have found that having external threads on the base will be much better. It will protect the threads from the metal gas pump nozzle. i found that out the hard way!
Yee haw! Somethin' about a pile of material ready to go that get's my machinist juices flowing! Glad you like my sliders Brandon. Thanks for the bump.
So there has been some interest in red anodizing of the cap and base. im looking for a count. whos in for red?
Bronzebronco does your cap solve the issue of fuel weeping out from the cap when the bike is sitting after filling up? I think this is caused by vapor pressure. This would be my main reason to buy the cap.
i have had my alum cap for a few years now without any problems. i believe it will resolve the issues you describe. i havent had the weeping through the cap happen before or after the alum cap install. one issue i had was the two "breather" hoses on the front of the fuel tank dripping alot. with the vent on the cap i have eliminated the dangling hoses that would drip fuel on my pipe.i was able to take a couple of extra husky bolts(the m6x1, 8mm hex) and plug them right up. also i think it looks much better without the extra stuff hanging there. hope this was helpful. i will include bolts to eliminate the hoses in front with the cap.
Good afternoon! just a little update for anybody who cares. the turning work for the cap is on the home stretch. i think they are looking very nice! vast improvement over my prototype. i expect to have more developments early next week. thanks for looking!
