Greetings TR owners-- anybody mind mentioning how much their dealer was willing to come down in price? My local dealer is getting a new batch of Terras in sometime in the next few weeks, and I plan on buying one. It seems this is a popular bike already, but it is still winter after all... Please be specific in your reply, since there are a number of different numbers that get thrown around-- bike only, doc fees, shipping (destination), taxes, and grand total walking out the door. Mostly I'm interested in how your negotiations went-- how much was your dealer willing to come down?
Use the KTM parts site as a tool to show your dealer..they are offering $400 off msrp and through today maybe an extra $500"...(($900 total off msrp) now I didn't buy one but did hit the "buy now" button...it gave those discounts. Now if you can really get it for $900 off is another story ...I bet their cost is = to or even more. But you can still use this as ammo to get a lower price. Kinda makes it look like there having a fire sale. If I were a legit Husqvarna dealer I'd be mad! You can't give away bikes and stay in business long.
My Terra arrived to the dealer Its 17'' ABS version though. Will be asking that to be sent to me by crate (too much snow to travel).
Why ? Its because they're renovating their motorcycle floor (bike sales off-season now due to snow)... You cant live on Husky bikes alone here. Still I'm the FIRST owner of Terra in this country, not counting ONE demo bike. Scary, eh ?
I see mine was not the only one to come without the nice little reflectors on the forks!! D.O.T. probably has a rule for street legal bikes to have the reflectors on the bikes, mine made it through without them...other countries probably have no such requirement
When my dealer got his first Terra demo, I was the first person to take it out for a ride. My wife was following on her bike. She saw one of the fork reflectors fall off about 2km after I left the shop. When I returned the bike, I told the dealer about the missing reflector. Me "My wife was following and saw if fall off. I was only doing about 40kph when it fell off". Dealer " don't you know you're not supposed to exceed 38kph when you're running in new reflectors ? "
It's the Terra ABS version. Eurupe only though I think. I understand the EU has mandated every new bike over 200cc (or something like that) sold will have to have ABS installed within the next couple of years. The 17" ABS models are not available in Australia or the USA.
True. Currently both versions of Terra are available over here - ABS-Terra with 17'' rear tire and nonABS-Terra with 18'' rear tire (same as in US). Pricing-wise they're almost the same - ABS one is 600 bucks more expensive, but employing my negotiations skills I got it reduced almost by that amount (well, as I said I'm the very first owner of this bike in this country). I still dont know if I did that right. I like ABS on pavement but I found some drawbacks already (no 'serious' rims available at 17''x3.0'', maybe 17''x2,75'' will do, ABS-permitting).
I do not like ABS on my F800GS....Nope...not at all. I turn it off constantly. That stupid thing is going to cause a wreck! The very thing it's supposed to prevent. It's a real spooky feeling when the ABS pump activates. Love it on my truck, hate it on my bike. And, a 17 rear with a 21 front might feel unbalanced on the Terra.....I donno. It's pretty level frontbikeways with the 18/21 combo. You might need to lower the front end (raise the forks thru the triple clamp) to level her out. HF
Picked up my Terra at Bill's in Salem, OR yesterday. I am a repeat offender there and would gladly repeat the 4 hour drive to do business with Bill. Got it licensed and insured today and took it for a spin. The windshield and grip heaters Bill installed made the 40 degree weather tolerable. Also got Cycra Pro handguards. Waiting for Motosportz bash plate. In the hunt for adventure worthy luggage. Maybe I need to change my moniker from TE250Guy? I love that bike and it is like new but, sadly, it has to go as part of the deal with wife.
Agreed! I had it on my F650GS. You will at sometime forget to turn it off when it is most critical. When this happens, you will probably be riding with all your fast friends, and if you stop to turn off your ABS (you have to stop and put the bike in neutral and hold the ABS button for three seconds...correct me if I'm remembering wrong HF), they will leave you in the dust and not even know it....so, you will decide to go on and take your chances convincing yourself it will be fine. Then you all will be cruising along on your favorite fire roads climbing the pass like you always do, reach the summit, and start barreling down the other side.......This is when things go horribly wrong. The first corner, which is always a loose sharp hairpin, you will go and lay on some rear brake (way too loose to grab any front) and the gawdamm ABS kicks in and turns the rear tire loose when you need it most! If you are lucky, as I was, you will be able to stop at the apex of the turn just before you fly off the side of the mountain! I believe ABS was created for and by people who live in wetter climates. They say its good on wet paved roads, but I don't know as I disabled mine before they killed me. Some people love them, but I will never, never ever, have a motorcycle with ABS again. Please be careful mario33! Don't forget to turn it off before you hit the dirt.
Yeah I know. The reasons I chose ABS version is the way this bike is going to be used. Poland is really wet sometimes. ABS saved my a**e a few times... And I liked it lower than ABS version (legs are short unfortunately). There are of course opposite arguments (you both mentioned some of them). If I feel I made a stupid decision eventually, I can switch to non-ABS version (just remove ABS and relace rear wheel to 18''). I wouldnt have that possibility going the other way round anyway should I need ABS (non-ABS to ABS). Possibly that might happen when my confidence in this bike grows enough. Nobody's perfect, myself included. Time will tell.
Just a reminder. The Husqvarna motorcycle dealers were previously barely surviving, and now with the bmw selling Husqvarna they are even in a worse position. Personally I would want to be on excellent terms with my local dealer.
