82 250 XC Refresh / dwarf build

Nudging this project along just a bit; Got the fame back from sand blasting, acid washed and etch primed it, a few bits back from plating are done and initial parts are in from Phillip along with a set of spokes from Buchanan’s. Figure to be on hold with the XC for a few weeks as to make an annual run to the core banks surf fishing with the guys, and then we’ll pick back up on it.

Couple weeks back before the weather changed caught a nice day, and rigged up a make-due windbreak/ paint boot of sorts with a canopy and sheeting. The local paint shop mixed up a match for the frame silver and finished with a couple coats of spray-max clear.

Senility must be setting in or in least that’s what I’m blaming for a Sunday wrought with ineptitude….Here in the last year or so I’ve laced up wheels for a KDX, a XR and even a set of Z-spokes for the IT200 each of which went along with-out much bother…….But these Nordisk gave me a fit!, in getting the spokes weaved in properly…..

Got all brave here a while back and took to replacing the seals in the Ohlins, while at it had the lower shock eyes done in yellow zinc, and springs powdered coated.

Had a 175F back in the day and enjoyed it, but came up with a flat rear tire one day and had gone down to purchase a new tube. On the show room floor sat one of them new G’s kitted with that snazzy alloy swingarm and couldn’t resist…..The tube purchase would have been an easy approval, however a new bike was not much welcomed parked in the duplex spare bedroom My-goodness was the wife pi**ed.

Got the Nordisks’ wrapped with IRC Volcanduros, the cylinder out for a fresh bore, and have the motor split for inspection, bearings and seals, and have mounted up the front end with new bearings and races.

Man are you going "at it"or what?? Great to watch a man at work!

Cases painted and fresh baked in three coats of clear…..They’re a bit glossy, though figure after a few rides, they’ll look appropriately stained in Carolina clay.

They will look fine in a couple of rides

Motor reassembled and set back in place with new bearings, seals, piston along with mounting up shocks and rear arm. Starting to take on the resemblance of a dirt bike

Fitted up new ignition (Powerdynamo), the PVL system was getting the job done, but was wanting the option of WR-izing it with lights and larger rear guard / fender. Notioned to go WR to start with, though lets face it the black/gold XC,,, aka” Burt Reynolds Smoky and the Bandit trans-am of the husky world” say’s early 80’s like nothing else.

Few other bits mounted up, a recovered seat, tank, wheels, side stand and bars.

Your bike looks great...very nice job.

Nearly there with it,,,, Yet to get the pipe done, mount a chain, then can look at adding go fluids…..I’m wavering on the yellow side plates and pondering……Should I switch to white?

Those are some ugly ovals. The correct would be green for the 250. Yellow big bore and white 125's. Have not seen Cafe Husky member Hwy in a while, but he made some up along time ago in all three colors. He used to be a mini sponsor here at CH. He did these for me along with the 250XC decal. I should have picked up the green. The green has a white border and lettering. They look sharp.

Thanks, Adam ; I was going by the brochure photo of the 82 XC in the tech section with the intent to stay close to original, but the yellow isn’t doing it for me….Figure to make a change when possible.

That picture is a 430. The 250 actually came with a green front number plate. I still have mine. Although not useable due to some minor cracks. I've not yet come across anyone that Makes a repro of the number plate in the correct green colored plastic.

Anyway, nice job on the build! I really enjoy my 250XC.
