The 400 is a lazy mans bike , just point and roll on the throttle . Oh so easy to ride. Vibration good.

The 240 is hectic to ride, has a little under the power band but throttle control is important when riding up hills. Got the 87 front disk setup which works brilliantly. Vibration on the 240 is over the top and I am going to strip her down to find out why. [ c/shaft not running true is my guess ]

When we all get together I'll be riding the 400 :D

Ps. Keep your eye out for a 87 rear guard . You won,t be disappointed. [My 240 has one on it and uses the same tail light lens as yours];)

the forks and front brake where the big limiting factors to me and this was a huge performance upgrade IMHO. It is literally a bolt on app too which made it just to EZ.

dukkman - You are right, the 400 motor is a gem of functionality. Really enabling and makes things EZ. Some say the best of the line.

I had a brand new 240 in 1984 (twin shock model water cooled engine) Cr's were 250, wr's were 240, something to do with FIM changes in 83 (i think) to the enduro classes. i vaguely remember there being a cut off at 250cc with no over size availability? so if you bored a 250 out to 1st oversize, it was effectively out of the class. Husky solved it with a 240. Happy to be put right if im wrong... could have been a marketing spin for all i know cheers

Going riding on Monday [ holiday here] and was giving the 400 a look over.
Have managed to spin the front tyre. [ this is with a rim lock and those poxy tls brakes][ Mine work great for some reason ]
The vibration must be worse than I thought because the left hand [ chinese ] radiator has fallen off.
    And NO I haven't fallen off , yet .
All the mounting lugs have broken off at the bends.
I thought they looked a little light when I got them.
The rest of the radiators are well built and the side plates are double the original thickness
Have sent the radiator away to be rewelded and have fitted an old one for the moment.
Andy the trail ride is at Aratula where we used to race .

i understand your issue as i had to get radiator man to weld two back on and make another up for the 400. i had trouble getting the watercooled rubbers with the 6mm threads and found the cb900 option... a good radiator man should sort that for you

Yes I know Brian has them , he gave me the idea.
Won,t he be pissed if his start falling off :D .
To be fair it,s only the lugs that are suss , the rest of the rad's look pretty good .
If I was to buy them again I would put heavier lugs on from the start.

I dont think it was the FIM, I believe the 240s came about because of a taxing structure, seems like it was France. If the bike was 250cc or more the taxes were higher, so to get around that they made a 240 and instead of making a bike just for France, they simply sold 240s to all of Europe. I could be remembering it wrong though.
