'87 250WR vs 250XC

Well, I didn't end up getting the XC ... but I did find a WR that I picked up last weekend! It is a project and will be a lot of work but should be a good starting point. How are the DC Plastic kits for this bike? Genuine plastic seems to be nla or crazy expensive.

Most original plastic can be saved with some re-conditioning work. Unless the pieces are badly cracked or missing, I would try to save or find original replacements. Also, Acerbis for example, still makes nice original-like front and rear fenders.
In my current 87 250 XC rebuild / restore, most of the cost is in sourcing replacement mechanical parts and machining work. If you don't have to rebuild any engine bits, you will be lucky and save money.

Phillip at www.husqvarna-parts.com has OEM plastic reproduced. OEM quality at a somewhat higher cost than DC Plastics

phil is missing almost all of the 87-88 plastic unless its not listed on his site

He does not have everything listed, If you do not see what you need, email him and ask. That is how I got the swingarm bearing sleeves for my 1978 ML swingarms. They were not listed but because they are a few mm shorter than the ones that are listed, he had a few sets just in case
