Ethanol aint too cool for smokers. The gas we have here is Cali is a mess and I'm suprised things run on it, truly the worst. I recomend to most running one fuel, not mixing them. If you are jetted for a particular mix of fules and ya can't get one or the other ingredients in your recipe your jetting can get fouled up, sometimes causing a lean condition if your on the cusp. Av gas is a strange animal too and I don't use it. I've done long term tests with additives, mixing race/pump etc. and found no benefit or long term wear savings, other than a slight reduction in a tendancy to ping under cetrain conditions. I finally gave up and ran either straight race fuel or pump gas. And, leaded race gas contaminates mufflers and such so- keep anything it comes in contact away from kids. Smokers don't need lead, 4T's can benefit in some circles of thinking but todays modern engine have stellite seats and stainless vavles so it's not even necesarry for lead to be in the garage or in contact with stuff...and fuel additives (octane boosters, fake lead additives et al.)are brutal toxic and are quickly absorbed through the skin and stored in the body like lead.

    Just some thoughts and ...........YMMV!

Diesel and gasoline look pretty similar however that is likely by weight (kg, lb) as a gallon of propane approx 4 pounds has a whole less heating ability than a gallon of #2 fuel oil which is pretty much died diesel approx 7 pounds.

The I don't know if it is true part of that sentence was supposed to relate to the previous statement I quoted. I am not the best communicator at times. The part about gasoline and diesel which is measured in cetane not octane was to cast doubt on the quoted text. Thanks for the data anyway just need some specific gravity numbers to be meaningfrul on a volume basis.

You can clearly see why hydrogen is the choice for getting into orbit and beyond. The idea of a value for wood and damp peat is amusing.

My understanding is that diesel has more BTUs or potential heat energy per gallon than gasoline.

Here's an interesting question... How much fuel is stored in the internal plumbing of the pumps? I ask because if you're getting 2-3 gal of fuel, and paying for the high test, but only getting half high test, and half whatever the last guy got is it worth it?
I ask because I figure there's got to be a fair amont of fuel in the pump it's self before it gets to the hose, so I only buy high test at a pump with separate hoses for each octane. I figure places wouldn't have separate hoses if it didn't make any difference. In a car or truck getting 10 gallons plus of fuel I'm sure it's not such a big deal but in a motorcycle...

I am not sure if someone else posted this, but in florida near waterways and lakes you can normally find recreational fuel (no ethanol) at the service stations.

Found this old thread in a search for something else...and also was reading this related blog post over TT
    http://www.thumpertalk.com/blog/7/entry-146-filling-up-at-the-pump/

Luckily, I have 2 local stations that sell non-ethanol gas. Both have 93 octane premium and 1 has a separate pump for it. I have filled my 5gl mix jug a couple of times at the convenience store with multi-fuel pumps, so assuming I got at least 1/2 gl of some other octane rating.
Anyway, still interesting topic and something else to watch out for.
