What's the time frame for this as I am shopping now. I get about 100 off a new lid from my dealer now.
hey LoM- I've been looking at Airoh for a couple of years now; I might want to be in on this. Put me down for a pretty definite "maybe". Especially if it just has Euro safety approvals (I'm tired of Snell. My current HJC weighs a dangerous 3.68 lbs; the Lg Airoh Terminator is 1150g or, uh, 2.5lbs... that's a huge difference). BSE is fine, and I guess so is DOT (does DIN or CS have helmet standards?) This outfit can get (some) Terminators for under $300 delivered (but it's 2-3week delivery; t'aint Amazon) ebay helmet from Italy I've been "watching" them for some time now; just haven't pulled the trigger quite yet. Even though my HJC is made out of lead or whatever, temp-wise, it is the coolest MC helmet I've owned (it's a SPX). FYI- all my helmets from the '90s weigh-in under 3lbs, all of 'em from the new millennium are over 3lbs.
I'd jump on that. Figured there would be more interest by now. Ifwe get enough it may be a little while
Just a heads-up, it looks like Airoh Terminator prices are dropping. I noticed they updated the higher-end Aviator (now Aviator 2.2, ...I couldn't see a big diff 'cept for the neck "wing" being reduced a bit) and with it's mid-priced brother's retail price dropping a bit- could mean they're coming out with an updated model. Or not- who knows? I still see 'em on ebay for under $300 delivered but this place has them for $204 + $40 S&H ...which is pretty good. Airoh Helmet Link (LOM- I take it the group buy is dead-in-the-water, sí?)
I recently had a very hard time dealing with Airoh America. Their lack of communication resulted in me having to file a dispute through my bank just to get a refund. They do not have a solid point of contact, just a shady call center number, and all they can do is recommend you send emails to the addresses on the website. I sent numerous emails everyday about my recent order and even had my girlfriend send them an email in regards to a totally different question. They never once got back to me. This was very displeasing seeing as how I just dumped almost $600 on the aviator 2.2. Found some on ebay, for a lot cheaper too even. Have to wait until I get my refund from the bank until I can order again.
yeah, all the firms I've been looking at have been in Europe (mostly Italy, occasionally Germany & the UK) so that shouldn't be an issue. Frankly, I don't wanna take the chance of getting a Snell-approved helmet, so if/when I buy- it'll be from overseas.
I found a respectable seller on eBay with a shop out of Colorado. I actually ordered through them earlier when I checked my account online and found out that I received my refund. Will be at the door next Tuesday.
my guess: Fay Meyers. They're all over ebay. hey, let us know what you think of it when it arrives. Pictures will get you some "likes" too!
http://stores.ebay.com/freeridinghelmetsandboots/Airoh-/_i.html?_fsub=15064238011 Will do. Eagerly waiting!
Well it turns out my helmet showed up before noon yesterday. It's funny because the shop I ordered from on Ebay is located in Colorado, but was shipped out of a distributor in Denmark or the Netherlands. Needless to say it was at the front door in literally 54 hours. Crazy lol. I fought so hard for two weeks with Airoh America just looking for an email response. Here's a few pictures, nothing fancy. My phone sucks. It looks way better out in the sun. The yellow really pops. I haven't gotten a chance to ride with it yet but from just trying to it on I can tell its a very lightweight, easy flowing helmet. It's super comfortable too! I don't see any signs of a DOT or SNELL cert., I don't even see anything about a ECE.
Odd that there's no ece either...maybe they're putting it inside, thought all of it was always posted outside though
I will do some more investigation tonight. I don't even think there was any info on that sellers ebay page in regards to it. The quality, fit, and finish of this helmet is beyond exceptional. I am coming from an Icon Variant helmet (I ride street 95% of the time) and can't get over the weight difference and how much more comfortable it is.
Me and icon gear never got along. Gloves would loose stitching quickly small parts would break on the helmet with little use and like you said, heavy.
Well Airoh is topknotch wether it has the ECE or out dated Snell stamp on it.... the weight alone is a great reason to pick it.... I have been running a UFO for a few years for the same exact reason.... super light and comfortable
Great report, thanks. Looks like you're a Caroli fan I'm guessing. What are the diffs between the Aviator gen 1 & 2, if they're detailed. I think the Terminator weighs a bit more than the Aviator... but is still super light. I'm pretty sure they're both ECE certified, but like I said I'd be happy with the British or German standards- BSE or TUV/DIN? IIRC. Thanks for the feedback.
i hear you about the shipping...i ordered my studded mitas tires off ebay and they shipped from eastern europe..was amazed how fast they shipped! its been awhile but it was crazy, like 3 days.. im due for a helmet...thinking hard about a airoh..
Not so much a Cairoli fan, but he can ride good and he usually looks good doing it too haha. I really just wanted a helmet that stood out and was different from everything else I normally see. Airoh has a lot of different colorways on all of their helmets, it was tough to choose honestly but I kept going back to look at this one particularly. From what I've read I think this helmet is lighter than the 2.1, has an expanded field of vision, some of the venting is different, and the peak is redesigned. I believe you're right on the Terminator and Aviator weight, although I'm not sure what the actually weight difference is.
