AJP is new to the USA and taking baby steps. Might be street legal versions some day (PR7 for sure) but as of right now off road only. In states like here in Washington where you can plate dirt bikes if they are setup to spec the AJP is crazy easy to register as it comes with most everything needed. This will be entirely on the customer after sale.
The Passion of the AJP Message: Passion! The first feeling that comes to mind when I think about what drives me and everyone else at the AJP team. Conquering new terrain and getting in touch with nature through unknown trails, riding in scenarios that few people, if any, have ever rode before is an unparalleled experience. An experience that appeals to everyone regardless of age and gender. Surpassing your capabilities and renewing your self-belief is a feeling that can hardly be described, especially when all of it is associated with a joy-ride! At AJP, we understand this difference, and that is why we design products which delivers this experience to people of all ages without asking their bodies to act like professional athletes. The results of these ideas was the creation of off-road motorcycles that can get you from one point to the other in your everyday trail-rides but can also give any rider a race-like experience if so desired. Our product range offers motorcycles that feel like they were tailor made, due to our attention to detail and flexibility. I hope you have a chance to enjoy the feelings I am talking about when you ride one of our motorcycles, after all, we are creating enduring experiences. The shop pictures are cool and show attention to detail and a much more professional and modern factory than you would expect. Its a cool thing they got going there.
take a little factory tour here... https://www.facebook.com/4578346309...7834630984493/535223199912302/?type=1&theater hit the next button and read the associated text. Nice facility.
2.0 = second version on the air filter set up K. I think the one used by AJP is MORE better . Great info on the AJP factory .
That does seem to be the biggest problem right now, getting them built fast enough, which is a good thing.
"which is a good thing" Not if you are the one waiting on one . My quote button no longer works for some reason so I have to quote old school.
Not good as a dealer either, got to plan way ahead! But it shows there is something to the AJP concept.
Agreed not good for anyone waiting but it will be good for AJP I do believe. My spare 2010 TC250 goes on sale today . Are you getting a PR4?
My Reply / Quote button hasn't worked for 3+ months on this new Dell Computer running Windows 8. Works fine on the laptop sitting right next to it though on Windows 7. Works fine at work on my Windows 8 computers as well, all Dell ??? The AJP stuff is cool to see how things are done in a smaller but still technically modern facility.
Deep in the Oregon woods, in the gnar, in slick clay with baby head rocks covered in decomposed leaves a star was born...
This is not a toy. My initial thoughts of the AJP line, because of the lesser cost and slightly smaller size is that these are really good entry level play bikes. Fitting a segment that is not well addressed by other manufactures. Seems in this segment you get a heavy, slow, low spec bike with crap brakes and suspension or you get a trials bike with a tank and seat. Having ridden both versions of this type of bike neither excited me. The AJP looked to fill this segment nicely. I ended up choosing the top of the line PR5 for my needs in hopes that it would be good enough for me to actually ride with big bikes, with my usual friends and at decent speeds. As you can tell from this thread this bike has become more than that for me. A bike I truly like and enjoy and had a great time taking it out of its element and seeing how far I could push it. That little experiment left me really loving the little bike that could and stunned how good it handled, how good the suspension was and how I could ride it with the regular group no problem. So with that initial 130 mile ride behind me and a different understanding of this machine I was excited to try it on our local gnar. Its been raining like crazy here in the NW. The ground is saturated, the leaves are wet and gooey and the trails are beat from the summer and lots of down trees... perfect, lets ride. I meet up with the regular suspects that can get out for this ride. Today it is Adam with a WR250 and Travis who usually rides a KTM350 but has seen the 2st light and bought a super clean and very nice used YZ250 he is loving. We choose Diamond Mill staging are which leads to some of the gnarliest trails around. These trails are used by my hard core buddies to get ready for extreme enduro type stuff. Lots of trails that can only be passed in one direction as they are to extreme to go up, covers in rock, more rock, clay, root wads, step ups, down hills you cant slow down on and generally nasty beat your ass trails. Yesterday id not disappoint in its ability to beat the crap out of you. River crossings were raging, trails had rivers running down them, rutted out like crazy, fresh layer of thick gooey leaves covering everything. Lets do this. First thing I notice out of the gate is the AJP feels a good bit more powerful. In contrast to my first ride area (Dez) the combo of much slower speeds, much lower elevation and lack of power sucking deep sandy / silty conditions gave a real impression of the power. The motor now feels surprisingly torque, pulls really well and was a non issue. More than enough power to get me up everything. The only time I noticed any lack of power was on a few long steep more open hills. That said the bike climbed like a billy goat and regardless of my speed would claw its way to the top. Nice. Next thing I notice is that suspension I love int he fast dez is just as good or better in the deep technical stuff. I am an endless adjustor on most bikes. This one is go good I hardly make the effort to try and make it better. I did end up going 2 clicks stiffer on rebound on the shock. The forks were left completely as they were at the fast dez. I'm only two rides in and I freaking love these forks. Very supple, very controlled, make everything disappear and deflect off nothing. I'm stunned how well they work. The shock is also near perfect. The only negative I can say is I found the skid plate several times when jumping fast waterbars. The springs might be slightly soft for me. Am I going to change them... NO. This suspension is some of the best stock or valved stuff i have used. I'm sure the relatively light weight of the bikes, small size and low HP contributes to this feeling but this suspension is amazing. Third thing that smacked me in the face is the freaking handling of this machine. For reference the x-light style frame (09 and up 125 and newer 250/310) are my favorite units. Fit me well, turn like crazy, sharp, not twitchy, just great frames. Take that type of handling level and then bump it up a notch. The low bike, weight distribution and overall feel of the bike take things to the next level. As of right now I have the feeling this is fast becoming my favorite chassis ever. I NEVER though this would be something that I would be posting when I got involved with AJP. The level of handling of this bike, for ME, in MY ride area is nothing short of stunning. It makes the trails feel wider, is so much easier than any other bike I've ridden to keep centered in deep ruts, can be pushed so far and not bite you and just plain works with you to make your ride amazing. Never have I ridden a bike that allows you to find the limits (and past) of tires so far before the bike is objecting. Its really hard to explain. I am coming into corners with more speed than ever and knowing I will overwhelm the front tire and it is not an issue. I am confidently drifting the front. Dont read this as the bike pushes, it does not. It allows such a level of corning speed and confidence that you readily drift the bike at will, under control and with ease. The thing is a scalpel and you can take lines you never dreamed of. The combination of good motor, fantastic suspension and handling, small bike and great ergonomics conspire to make one hell of a deep woods technical dirtbike. I hate to say it but this bike changed the way I am thinking about bikes now. We keep looking for the next big thing, buying all this tech that seems to be just tech and not real advances. Then some funky little machine, built in some nice little factory in portugal comes and blows my mind. I honestly was not expecting this and an still having a hard time rationalizing it all. I know this all sounds like hyperbole, possibly to sell bike. It is not. It is simply my opinion of the bike and realization of how good it is for ME and MY riding. That said everyone that jumped on it has loved it. Buddy Adam tried it yesterday. He loved it and was instantly a good bit faster on it than his own WR250 with rekluse. He tried to trade me 2 huskys for it :>) Adam had to go home slightly early and then Travis got a flat. I was not done having the time of my life on this super fun little bike that can and went out for about 12 miles by my self which is against my better judgment as this is deep woods, getting late and things can happen. Did not care, rode til dark. Bottom line is this bike has bullied its way to the front of the "take me" pile. AJP has a slogan, "2 easy 2 ride". I think that sums it up well. What it is missing is the fact that it can hang with an really for the most part surpass most bikes these days in ability. The bike is so accommodating, e-start, magic carpet ride suspension, crazy handling, super light feel, planted felling, great ergonomics etc. that you don't want to stop riding. the guys were whipped 3/4th the way through the first gnarly trail. I was hardly warmed up. This bike is so much easier to ride than a "normal" bike it is amazing. The motor is never yanking you around, the suspension is always working for you not against, the handling makes it hard to see as it is so good the huge smile almost forces your eyes closed, the way it handles slimy rock gardens is second to none. This bike is not a toy. It is a well thought out, different approach and very well the bike many people should be on. I really look forward to more reports on these bikes. I also look forward to getting the PR4's in and having them crush my expectations too. I have a shop full of great bikes and I just want to ride this one. I see miles staking up on this quickly. As much as I love my 165 and 250 2 strokes for the NW gnar and how much I never thought I would be a 4 stroke for deep woods fan this bike has become by favorite woods bike. I was not expecting this but I'll take it. This is one competent package and really is 2 easy to ride. just waiting for the guys to show up... They are here, and complaining about the rocks and slick conditions... din't notice
Friend who is a Gas Gas dealer, just took AJP on. I'm hoping to get to get a ride, on a PR4 or PR5 in the future.
Great report Kelly. Seems like this bike is right in its element here in the NW! I read the euro enduro mags and they've given very similar reviews over the years on the AJP. A bike built for real riders who don't need a full blown high Hp race bike. Exciting to have another option out there and at an amazing price. I guess there's a very good reason guys did, and still do, ride old XR's and KDX's in the gnar in Oregon/Washington and why Jake rides the old WR250f. Would you say this could be considered a modern, high end XR250?
