I was watching the video thinking it was you Robert. Thinking how can he still be out front at that speed then he tipped over in the sand wash and it was a beginner number on the bike, oh that makes more since.

h cam is only for trail rides.. I really like to ride as "naked" as possible, less to think about is always better for my simple mind.

Im sure we will dig up some good hcam action from L2 and hopefully L3 as well.
I really want to re-live/see L2 and for sure the first section of L3 and later in the L3 the up the canyon near the end with the downhill......

Just think Mr Robert you show up once a year and take most of the 50a class to school 2nd is great now next year I want to see a 1st. That is only if I do not need to race it. Because last year I won it because you were not there.

where were these trails in the late 80s and 90s... all we ever got to race was whooped out sandwashes only race I can remember with these types of trails was virgin voyage.... Thats the 2nd video ive seen and thats badass

I like those tough one sections but can still do without all those valley crossings, dust clouds and higher speed sections, I'm still a trail rider at heart. no doubt that was a tough long good race event, your club is super good, and having Erek K overseeing any event is key to success for sure.

I think John has finally decided to share some of his secret stash with the racing community. Although I can tell you that once you venture off the known trails, it really did open up lots of other possibilities. There is more untapped and non-whooped goodness to be had out there.

that second loop was my type of trail ride, nice layout, not too crazy but somewhat advanced. had little bit everything, sandy washes, hidden rocks, round rocks, sharp rocks, well marked, cross grain, ups and downs etc etc . a super nice desert mix trail. I could make that a regular trail for the crew.
The other thing I would love is to do the end of L3 when I am fresh and on my pegs and trials stylish- not dragging arse, paddling with my feet and muscle-ffing the bike over the rock waterfalls. And again thanks to all of you for putting on a National class event!!

PPS The local fast teenage kid I was pitted with is Grant Stately he lost his rear brake not far into the L2, the clevis broke then his entire push rod fell off= zero rear brake, he finished L2 then went and finished L3 in good order in 4th.
Lesson that I mention all the time- clutch is also a decel slipper clutch when used under decel, Grant overcame his brake issue by gearing down on hills and using the clutch as a brake, he said he even shut the engine off and coasted down using the clutch to brake at times.
The other local fast kid pitted with us was Nolan he got lost, he lost ribbon and got turned around..for DNF.......kids....gotta teach these guys some ribbon/trail savvy

Note to self when John posts a double down arrow take heed!!! my wrists still hurt from one sharp edge G out that had my hand come off the bar, thankfully I saved it!!

I bet that G out was the one about 3 miles past road crossing 5 just after you had gone into the hard right turn to the sand wash just after you came out of the sand wash and started across some virgin stuff there was a nice hard to see G out It got me prerunning so I put 2 arrows on it

I only rode L1 ('cause I'm in the old-guy class) but I had a blast. The first half of it was perfect, nice flow to it. I don't do well in sand so I struggled on the dunes but still finished with a huge smile on my face. In my book, that's what racing is all about. Hat's off to the 100's for putting on a fun event.

Robert I rode that loop so many times in the last month I can tell you where every rock was I even rode it Sunday morning before the race I left as soon as I could see like 6.30 and had to finish before 9am so I could give the all clear to go At 8.45 I stopped on the hill outside of camp 1 mile from the finish and radio in it is good to go. Then rode in before the banner dropped Then rode it again as sweep and ribbon puller

Remember that rock next to the bush by the turn before the hill HaHa

Shoot there was races I never saw the ribbon lol.... After a while you get the hang of kinda knowing where they are going.... although there has been times all of a sudden the dust stops and your looking around like oh heck oops dust waaay over there... i found most of the time at a D37 race if you havent seen ribbon or arrows in a couple seconds start looking around.... I was always looking for short lines so I always had my head on a swivel....
