Another dual exhaust option

    My pipes from Screaming Demon arrived today. I must say they are made to an incredible level of quality, they'd be NASA approved. They make the one I got from LeoVince for my KLR look down right cheap in comparison.

    The downside to all that quality is they are a bit on the heavy side. I measured this one on my NOT NASA calibrated digital scale and it came up 6.44 lbs, so slightly less than the 7 lbs mag00 posted for his stock one, but not my much.

    I think the weight comes from the REALLY beefy construction. I believe that sweet looking endcap is actually cast in Stainless Steel, I can't believe it. Everything is thick gauge high quality construction, I think they might outlast the bike and me.

    They come with 2 baffles. The quieter one is installed and looks to be about 4-5" long capped with holes drilled in the sidewalls. The "sport" baffle is about the same diameter as you see in this photo but straight through and about 4" long or so. Then you can run without any baffle for full bellow mode. I'm pretty sure I'll be running with the quiet baffles in.

    I will take more pix when I get a chance to install them. The only thing I wish they'd done is include the forward bushing mount the stock ones use in addition to the rear mount, I think that's a good design, especially for heavier pipes. I will see how they feel when mounted up.

    I got the Screaming Demon pipes installed last night. They went on with no hassles.

    If you're looking to loose weight don't bother, maybe 1 lb total. If you looking to get rid of the cats and tweety birds with an exceptionally well built, and nice looking, set of pipes that are adjustable then this might be good option for you. I have the "quiet" baffle installed (came that way) and I don't want it any louder. They have a bit more bark than I'd like but not too bad. I will most likely use the extra "sport" baffles as the basis for making a set that take out some of the bark but maintain flow.

    Those look nice. The single GPR on mine has a bit of bark with the db killer in and is flat out obnoxious with it out. Mine is going to stay in too.

    A cheap option are some slip-on cans I brought on eBay for AU$90/pair. As you can see through them they're loud so I made some baffles which still had a harsh bark so I wrapped them in stainless mesh which did the trick.
    The clamps supplied were ditched in favour of some stainless t-bolt items which provided a mounting for the heat shield front bracket. Overall a great result which allows me to refit the factory set-up in an hour if required.

    They are noticeably lighter around 1/3 less.
    Their sliding slot allowed easy mating to our existing rear rubber mount + inlet size same as our 45mm OD tube.
    Will need to play around with my baffle design though. After a long ride yesterday, it sounds tweety >4,000rev/min.

    Another observation without baffles was a lack of back pressure causing the bike to lose its low down torque making it hard to get off the line with no engine braking when downshifting.

    In regard to it's note >4,000rev/min, I'll live with that as it has a nice rumble when cruising part throttle <4,000rev/min.

    Overall for their price & ease of installation, they're worth a try.
