BMP is making some carbon fiber guards that will fit the 610 and 630 on the left side and one for the 630s right side.
Uptite says there are no fittment issues with their skidplate on the 630. I guess that means the 610 skidplate is a direct fit.
I got one last weekend from Taskys. I like it, but it needs to be woken up I think. disapointed with the power, but maybe it needs more break in and different pipe to make it breathe better? It is my in between bike, I have a 300 XC and a 1200 GSA, but was missing out on a decent dirt road bikethat you can hit the single track occasionally. The seat is a board, gonna have to do something about that. The pegs are too small also if you like to stand. It won't lift the front into a wheelie easily in 2nd gear at this point, only with a good pull on the bars and fanning the clutch. I was hoping for some 3rd and 4th gear power wheelies, that isn't happening unless the pipes help. I have removed the snorkel from the airbox, and there is some wierd plastic venturi thing inside the box that I modified to try to get more airflow. That didn't seem to do anything. Still waiting for my manual, and hoping to find some aftermarket things like pegs, bar rises, taller seat, etc. Happy with it, just want more power!
Honestly I think you should have brought a twin It should liven up after some K's but not as much as you want. And as for the seat well. I really think you got the wrong bike for what you want
Stock gearing is extremely tall (15/42). This works out to top speeds of 38 and 55mph in first and second gear. This bike with lower gearing and lambda sensor mod. will probably have more than enough power to suit the Dual Sporters out there.
I had one, (950 KTM) and have one (1200 GSA), so no I shouldn't have bought a twin. It isn't close to the power of the 450 KTM I had, or the 525 KTM that I am replacing with the 630. It feels more like a KLR than what I was expecting. So I mention this on a forum because there are plenty of people that may know what to do about it. There has to be more potential, it feels really choked down. And yes, the seat is a board. My ass is on the pan (no padding). And yes, something can be done about that. I know because I have been riding KTM's for the past 10 years...
Send your seat off to XPC Racing, their banner is at the top of the page and you get a 10% discount for being a member here. I've been working with Jim (the owner) on my seat and he's a great guy with top notch service. I think you'll be happy once the break-in is over and the FI is remapped. The 09 SM610 I rode last year was stock and felt severely "choked" as well but once the guy had it opened up the bike was a completely different animal and ran out really well. Rumor has it that the 630 once un-corked, should run in the 60-68hp range which should be plenty of go.
Actually I bet it will liven up enough. My 610 stock was just good enough for 2nd gear wheelies too. Just a after the PU, just changing the rear sprocket from a 45 to a 47, and it FINALLY loosening up after a good 1000-2000 miles it's hard NOT to wheelie in 3rd and 4th is easy. Huskies are known for being pretty tight when new, and the 610 even more so and for a lil longer than the rest. Have fun!!
There plenty there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViwaepHyPxY&feature=related The 630 will have more. Break in for 5-600 mi, de-restrict and add pipe (Uptite, LV or ?) and you'll have what you're looking for. Tasky's should be able to give you a list of things to do. Might as well use up the warranty time (or most of it) before modifying.
I still think we are finding our way around the new bike. Over in Oz the May edition of the ADB mag has a pretty good first ride story. I recon like all new huskies a bit a settling in miles and a few bits we all like to do to suit our needs/riding requirements will produce a great natural successor to an already great machine. I do feel the drivers behind this bike were slightly different to the 610 in that they probably moved one more click toward road orientation-hence the stock gearing etc. I have yet to ride the new Husky and the KTM opposition but I feel the huge price differential is allready heavily scewed in our favour. Jeez they do looks sweet don't they. I think having a cappacino at a roadside cafe with this parked next to me is almost enough, It doesn't have to even go.
Thanks for the info guys. I'm new to Huskys and don't know where to go for info. Taskys is great, but quite a distance from me, and they really don't know much about this bike yet. I am sure there is more power there, just have to figure out what to do to get it out. Put on 200 miles this weekend on mostly dirt roads. Now have 300 miles on the bike. My bike won't lift the front end like that video, but now I have something to aim for. That is what I was looking for from this bike, but happy with it for the intended use.
I agree--My 09-610 was a totally flat when new. Never thought i would get more out of her than 120kmph--last run i did she ran 160kmph on my GPS After 1000km i did the O2 Conversion with the Arrow aftermarket pipe--Runs like a bat out of hell now that it has 7000km on the clock. Still not as quick out of the blocks as my 450 TE but just so smooth and fun to ride with all the torque i need.
Wondering if the new TE630 comes from the factory with the throttle block like the TE450 and TE510 limiting it to about 70% of normal WOT?
