I'm sure all my friends will say I'm weird, and I had a '75 Hodaka Thunderdog for god's sake, lol. All I can say is being from Central PA, it must be something in the water. (mayb a little coal mine run-off.....)
I have always considered myself a little weird because I raced boats, ride dirt bikes, only buy what I have money for, house and cars are paid for, but some of you have taken it to a new level! Drive a nissan truck, RX7 twin turbo in the garage, restored '80 honda cr125 elsinore, '83 yz 125 in the basement, listened to new wave in the '80's and listen to mostly alternative now. I do like electronic dance music though, maybe that counts. I have Husqvarnas because I think they are exotic looking, work very well, and I could no longer stand riding a KTM like everyone else. KTM people think I am wierd because I switched. GP
yes !! I happen to own an exotic animal rescue clinic. 3 african lions, one black leopard and one siberian tiger. We havent gone non profit yet but I get so many people telling me should am seriously considering it. oh ps.... african lions just freak out when we ride a 2 stroke but are unphased with a 4 stroke. Our house is in the boonies of the north east section of Washington state and there happens to be 100's miles of riding by our house in the mtns and we used to ride by the cages but now have to walk them by sicne we are on 2 smokers. Just some lions and dirt bike trivia- hahaha
Cool! When I was around 12 or 13 there was a Hodaka dealer in my small town. I drooled over that Green Road Toad ! But lived with my Chapperal 100!! Have not thought about a Hodaka in awhile, but I like em to!
thats pretty cool man. dunno if i want to mess with the lions, i know what they can do, i watch nat geo lol any sasquatch??
Naw, you guys are just weird. Let's see, I've ridden Penton and GasGas, Fantic, I like anything Mercedes Benz, even have a 32 year old diesel in the garage, old motorcycles, old wooden boats, a fetish for hand-made or expensive shoes and boots, fine wine, old jazz, no tatoos or piercings. So I guess I'm wierd too. What a bunch...
Although I don't currently own an assembled Husky, I will as soon as I have the $$$ and find the right TE610. I am weird too... Would rather wear my road cycling gear than regular clothes, and I'm not gay. My idea of fun is climbing mountains on a road bike, or going for a long flat ride at 25 mph until I throw up... When I get tired on the bicycle, I make dirt bike sounds to pick me up again.
Yes, like stuff that goes fast! Just about anything that smokes (2 Strokes - Tires)! Not environmentally friendly, I guess! I say, let the grandkids ride electric bikes! But for now, let's use up the gas! Like Alternative, new wave, coffee shop music but still like the early 70's/late 60's music, etc.....! I like slightly lifted trucks with nice rims/mud slingers, Only own black vehicles, I am a perfectionist/workaholic/tinkerer, believe you can rest when your dead, kids will never get me in a nursing home, Can make a joke out of anything and will help anyone as long as they are not jerks!
Walt, I would have figured your Saab to be a Model 96 Monte Carlo, with its little 2 stroke tweaked to perfection.....
I worked on a farm in high school and there was one of those out there in a barn. One day me and my buddy got it running and rallied it around the fields. That and two mini coopers. FUN. the Saab had some weird linked suspension and actually worked great across the cow fields. My buddy rolled it. He crashed or rolled everything.
I do tend to gravitate to things that most regular people won't do. Bodybuilding, mountain biking (I also have some pretty uncommon bicycles), Husqvarna, engineering, etc. Hodaka was mentioned earlier. Not only do I know what they are, I used to own one.
My dad had a 96 and then a 99. Wish I still had those. Nice Goat Darin. I almost bought one of those a few years back but decided I needed more bike stuff. OBTW, my 9-3 has about 280 hp and 350 ftlbs and will pull 160 pretty easy smooooth and solid.
Saab Factory Rally driver Erik Carlsson's nickame was.... "On the Roof Carlsson". He had rolled his Saab, many times racing and sometimes on purpose! Saabs can take it.
Thanx Walt/Kelly! Whiterocket, I dug it out of the pile of cars @ Dave's classic cars in Glenarm, IL., Down by you! Car was about completely rusted out, with no engine. Took me 2 years of body work and painting. Spent about a month of hand block sanding it out since it was going to be black. Had guy in Chicago, do engine while I was doing all the body work. Car was purchased new, originally, down by Branson, Mo. He drove it to south Texas, to leave for Nam. He hit a bridge on right side and wrecked it. He never came back from Nam and the dealer had to go down, reposses it and bring it back. She is dialed in about 600hp. Like driving on a sheet of ice. This car is one of those, make the back of your hair stand up. Wasn't even interested in doing another car. We wnt to Branson,Mo for Christmas. Heading back, I looked over and saw it. Had to make a fast exit on hwy, wife thought I was nuts! We looked at it and bought it. Was like the guy who bought it and went to Nam, wanted me to bring it back!
Here's my 2 experiments with black vehicles: Bought slightly used in 1985, it's an '84 (when I was 17): Bought new in 1987 (when I was 19): Rode the bike for a few years & sold it to help finish paying for the car. Didn't get another bike til I was 38. Didn't drive the car til it was fully paid for (2 yrs). It sure did like to heat up the rear tires when I did drive it. Good fun putting down 2 long strips after it shifted into 2nd under full throttle. Just cruising it got 30mpg on the highway, could seat 5, had a big trunk, was faster than the Corvette that year (87) & could corner pretty good too. Kept the car for 4 years & sold it with only 3964km(~2500 miles) on the clock. Sold it for the same money I paid for it. I think they're starting to go up a bunch in value nowadays. Crazy huh? Like the looks of black vehicles, but they're too much work for me personally to keep them looking their best.
Well, I sold all the Saabs some time back ...so it must be you. Currently running a well used Land Rover Discovery (it's red) which is about to be handed off to kids in Idaho, the wife's R500 MB, a '51 Olds, (not to mention the recently departed straight 6/manual trans '92 F150) and 3 Husqvarnas ... shopping for the next oddity .. wonder how many bikes I can pull with a Fiat 500??
