An old friend got the Husky fire re-ignited for me. He was racing a TC 450 a few years back in the Vet Expert class. It was so cool watching him race against the field of red, green, yellow and blue bikes with the only Husky on the gate. It made me feel like he was single handedly upholding the the Husqvarna racing tradition. Kind of a David vs. Goliath thing. I thought he could use some help, so a few months later I bought mine.
Yes, the internet played a big part in my decision to get a Husky. TT and ADV then later on Cafe Husky are all great sources of information for Husky's.
Forums made a huge influence on my buying decision. Had it not been for forums, I wouldn't have known Husqvarna existed, much less found a retailer. They've also been an valuable tool in maintaining and enabling me to get the best out of my SM610. How else would I have known about smog-removal, Leo Vince exhaust systems, PowerCommaders, where to find parts, etc. Otherwise, I'd be be riding a stock DRZ400S and about $10,000 richer!
Internet forums did make my decision easier, did alot of research on the web before I bought mine. Used to race against them in the 70's and 80's, always one or two at every hare scramble, so I knew they were good bikes. Then came marriage, kids, mortgage ect, and didn't have a bike for a while. 07 decided I needed to buy again and wound up buying a KLR 650, first plated bike I had ever had and was very unhappy with it, heavy, no power, then my wife was burning some leaves in the back yard and it got away from her and burnt my shop down with the bike inside. The KLR was the only thing I didn't miss. So back to searching again, I had looked at some of the Huskys on e-bay, but no dealers in Alabama so I wasn't real sure about buying one till I got to researching here and other sites and made my choice, bought an 08 610 from an advrider inmate and so far could not be happier. This is the bike that all dual sports want to be when they grow up. I have the Talledega national forest in my back yard so I have about 500 miles of dirt road to ride in addition to commuting back and fourth to work (20 miles each way). Already put about 200 miles on it since Sunday, looking forward to many years of riding this bike.
I just bought a 2008 SM610 and am waiting for it to arrive. Cafe Husky, ADV, and TT all influenced my decision. I had also considered a BMW 650 X-Country. It's a neat bike, but after reading about electrical problems and the motor being made in China, I decided to go for the Husky. I've read so many good things about the TE & SM 610. Can't wait to get mine...
Final tally at this time: Are online forums a reason you bought a Husqvarna Bike? Yes = 19, 63% No = 11, 36% Cannot tell from what was posted = 4 Total votes = 11+19=30 Unsticking thread now... thanks!
Internet most all the way.......... and one friend who did all the research and took the plunge first. Between CH and ADVR knowing that enough people have the experience to know any issues and fix them. Along with the reassurances of the reliability across a spectrum of users and I was sold............ I'm a euroslut at heart anyways.........
well, i've been into road bikes for a lot of years and have an aversion to UJM's. i wanted to get back into trails and a mate at work was really into MX and enduro, at a barbie over a few beers we got talking and looking at his bikes in his shed and i was really impressed with the build quality and all the trick stuff that came std on his TE. after he explained how easy they were to maintain i bought one, from there i scoured forums for information of all types and discovered what a fantastic resource and close knit little community there is for husky owners. there's no doubt in my mind i've made the right choice, great bike, great community, and while i like riding something different to most i wish more were in on our secret too. paul.
heres my 2 bobs worth, the answer is no ! ... i rode nothing in last 19yrs (apart from grizzly's and foremans being on farm land ! ) for last 10yrs in uk and when i arrived in oz i couldnt ride a quad in the bush(trails) so, i had to redevelop balance as been used to give it a heavy hand and not worry as the quads were stable (to a point)and go anywhere you pointed them !...anyway, i had an xr250 which i loved apart from the kickstarter and lack of real grunt after a grizzly so looked about.. crf 450, rode one and kinda liked that, none for sale though...wr450, rode 4/5 didnt like any of them due to seat like a rocking horse and skittish ride.. bearing in mind i am 70lbs lighter than most owners of these bikes i tried.. anyway, i was offered a te510 by a friend who had bought 3/4 bikes from a dealer in brisbane (got issues unresolved but minor like missing kickstand ! ) and went to see the husky.. loved the noise from my mates ones, just sound so different to other bikes ?? and thought yeah, never rode it and bought it ! .. i am small, 5 foot 7 and 140-147lbs soaking wet ! (10 1/2 stone to you US blokes !) and apart from wind back the compression from the front forks, i love it so much ! grunt is awsome from start ! will tractor up anything with clutch , doesnt bite (too much ) and has excellent manners.. now, it feels a bit heavier to the wr450 but i can live with that as its so comfy and well, its just different.. suits me.. got a wee issue with arm pump but thats to be expected coming from a xr250 to a uncorked tuned 510 and being so small !!! they also dont seem to look like any other bike ? sound is defo on its own... i will stop blowing smoke now and show ya's all a pic !
I had a husky chainsaw i really liked, so I went looking for their bikes,(ya i know different companies now) saw a few pics, fell in love....yadda yadda yadda, now im a euro bike snob.
Cut my teeth on Husky 125's in the early and mid 70's. Quit riding for no good reason in 77 and the wife who must be obeyed denied all question of a dirt bike for 20 years until a little alcohol and a great deal on an ebay auction 06 WR250 in the crate broke the hymen. Asked for forgiveness and was denied and I haven't looked back since. But the forums on the internet have allowed me to convince a few others to try the forgotten brand "HUSKY" Walt
I was looking for that something a little different (ie non japanese and non KTM) that was not a total loner. The last aspect has to do entirely with getting parts and servicing etc. Thumper talk support was a key aspect in deciding on the Husky brand for my initial Husky an 05 TE 510. Other supporting aspects were the near location of a dealership and other bikes in the market under consideration did not meet my supply requirements such as Sherco, Gas Gas and TM. The latter is also a grand more than the others. Continued enjoyment of the bike and TT and latterly CH have kept me very much in the husky fold. I bought a run out 06 TE 450 in 07 and still have it but will update in 2010.
I would say the answer for me is very similar to ghte's statement. I have ridden many brands (mostly Japanese/KTM) and realized I have never rode a Husky. Found an 08 TE250 and just had to get it. About a week after getting it I was online searching for parts on google, and a link popped up for CafeHusky. Here I am.
In 2001 I bought a new KTM520EXC. After 4 yrs.of really fun trail riding & an occasional harescramble, I decided to get something smaller to help keep my later laptimes better. I had a real good dealer about an hour away but KTM did not put out a good 250 4 stroke in my opinion. I started looking around & found TT online during my search. When I found the Husky forum I fell in love. I found a dealer 2 hrs. away & made a deal over the phone, but it was based on the confidence I got about maintenance & durability from TT. I still have my 05 TE250 with over 200 hrs & no valve adjustments[still checking every 10 hrs]. I can't seem to part with it. I still have my wife of 39 years so go fiqure!!!
Forums aren't the reason I bought a Husky (I bought my TE for cheap off a neighbour who previously had a DRZ400 and was terrified of the TE because everyone who had ridden it had broken bones)... But... This forum (and Thumpertalk) have provided a wealth of information about my Husky so I've been able to fix those little make-specific issues and enjoy my purchase (There aren't a lot of Husky riders in the U.K. so the internerd has been invaluable). Hope this makes sense.
I must say that the internet was the reason I got started buying Huskys. Similar story to everyone else. Just started looking and liked what I found.
Honestly, the first Husky I bought - the main reason was because of a write up in a magazine. I wish I could remember which one it was, but it was '06 and Husky was the first with the street legal DS. Turns out that didnt' matter none to me. I liked the TE450 at the time but came to like my wr250 much more. I bought it because resell is cheap and I got it with about 10 hrs on it for $2,200. So, mag first, then value.
First Husky, '09 TE250, first post; joined yesterday and bought my Husky yesterday. I've owned a few bikes, none were husqvarna. I did a lot of searching Cafe Husky prior to my purchase. In fact I spent today preping the bike based on information I found off of this site. Thanks. I'm still breaking in the engine - can't wait to get it out on the dirt.
