Ok boys and girls, what's the best route for getting down to Calexico through the Republic of California? Is I-5 the preferred route or 99 at Sacremento for speed and ease of travel. I've got a feeling we'll be a little road weary somewhere between SF and LA. Planning on leaving Tacoma, WA sometime between 0400 and 0600 on Thursday the 12th. Don't know how far we will push it before needing to crash for a few hours, but am expecting a damn long day/night. Definitely would like to cross the border with a Caravan of smart folks if possible. Looking forward to that first beer at San Felipe.........

Drove 13 hours yesterday and 1/4 of the way there. Is there a prize for the longest distance traveled to go for a ride.

I find it ironic that I am reading posts about your epic travels just to get to the ride, and I live less than an hour from the border.

What? You're only an hour away from the border??

Check your PM's in a minute, ok?

    Hey, ioneater!

I don't know nuthin' `bout no Calexico or whatall, but I do know that 99 down the heart of the central valley is the worst freeway known to man. It's 2 lanes in a lot of spots and it is clogged with a ton of semitrucks. Lots of off- and on-ramps slowing things down, too, with commuters, people running errands, etc. I-5 is much more conducive to high-speed long distance travel. It is usually full of folks with a long way to go and a short time to get there, and they drive accordingly.

Drive safe, and I'm looking forward to meeting you!

    Ok, Here's the scoop.

So when I thought Coffee wasn't going to be able to make it, I asked my Baja chase driver Dave to tag along with us. He's a cool guy who just embodies the spirit of Baja. There has only been a few trips I have been down there without him. My dad is still going to chase with my truck, and if we needed 2 drivers, Dave could take Mike's. I'm glad to hear that Coffee is now going.

We are bringing 10 gallons of 91 in the truck down to Bay of LA. If anyone can bring some more, we will make room in the truck. In Baja gas is something you can not have too much of. My chase truck will have all the normal support stuff, tools/oil/fluids/compressor/jumper/high lift/etc. I think Mike mentioned that we are using radios. I will have one on my bike, and there is one in the truck. I believe last time we used BITD freq.

I am bringing 2 sat phones. My chase truck will have one, and I will have one on me. If anyone needs to check in with family at Bay of LA, it's $2 a minute or a beer/shot for me a minute:lol:

I'll be heading down about 7AM Friday morning to visit a friend who lives a bit south of SF, but will meet up with everyone later that day. You can probably find us at Bar Mirmar when you all roll in. Mike, I'll have a handheld radio on BITD freq on me, so when you roll into town, just call me on the radio. If not, we'll meet up with all you at 6 at the sand bar. Bob & Brian, you are welcome to follow, but if you don't want to leave that early I'm sure you can hook up with everyone else in Calexico.

Anyone up for a night ride Friday night in SF? We can do an easy beach ride, or hit up the GIGANTIC whoops that SF is so well know for. Anyone???

Looks like this trip is going to be a blast!

Hey, at least you got the apostrophe in the right place when you typed "you're"...even though you added an extra "r" on one of them :busted:

Oh, and I do believe it's spelled grammar;)

Balke do you have Weatherman freq, don't have it on my handhelds. Putting on lights and stater now just in case we run a little late. Later George

Just out of curiosity....what is the day and time you think you will be crossing the border at Calexico? I know, it's probably buried somewhere in the pages of this thread.:excuseme:

We will be bringing 10gal of premium with us. Don't know if it'll stay with Mike's truck or yours.

I'd love to do a night ride, but I will respectfully steer clear of any whoops on my SM610, regardless of whether they're gigantic or not...

Would suggest to hold off on nite ride until back in San Felipe. Just a hunch but maybe some on Sat getting to B-La. No way of knowing for sure but could have 45+ on this ride If everyone makes it as they said they would.
Thoes leaving from Up-Tite would like to leave between 7:00 and 7:30 Friday mourning reason to hopefully get to Calexico to go across at around 12:00 for the first group. Give a chance before BC and Dad dry the place out. Later George
