Jon - I went with a powermadd riser and fat bar setup. Or, if you want the motosportz clamps (no riser - just fat bar conversion), let me know. Bought them in black and never used them.

If I get my kit from HDB and their bottom clamps dont work I will definitely take you up on that offer.

I have Pro Taper Hi atv 7/8 bend bars on my klr and that bike has been dropped, crashed at least 20to 30 times
with no ill effects on the bars.

That bike is probably 450 pounds set up
The cross bar on the pro tapers probably helps out
I'm sure fat bars are stronger, but do you really need them?

Anybody heard of a Yamaha bend 5XC-L2 by Pro Taper. I can pick them up from a local dude for $35. They are 1-1/8. I dropped my bike in gravel fairly hard and bent the stock bars a bit. I am not sure if its better to deal with the fat bar issues or the 7/8"s crossbar issues in regards to mirror clamps and the Touratech hand guards. Any thoughts?

Good aluminum 7/8ths with a crossbar are very strong. The fatbar gives a little more and removes some impact and vibs. Enough for me so make it worth it but not a huge deal. The crossbar give you a place to mount stuff. ProTaper is very good and $35 is cheap and you don't need adaptors. Go get them.

Thanks Motosportz, but the $35 Pro Tapers are 1-1/8 or Contours. I can get your adapters from a friend but I'm not sure if the Touratech hand guards will still fit.

Maybe I should be adding the $35 Touratech crossbar as a preventive measure and pick up a place to mount goodies in the bargain? http://www.touratech-usa.com/Store/...8-2013-R1200GS-ADV-oil-cooled-Husqvarna-TE630 or http://www.touratech-usa.com/Store/PN-040-0601/Cross-Bar-320mm

I would not waist my time as the bars will just bend right at the crossbar and swist too. Get real bars, this was a cost cutting measure. You can drop a pound or two of high placed weight in the process.

On the subject of bar replacement, how do you remove the left grip that has the plastic part underneath from the bar?
    Is it glued on?
Do you just have to twist it hard or pry it to break the bond?

Thanks for the offer, but I am not the guy who bent his bars.
I am doing the powermadd/fat bar swap but the grip had me stymied.
Duh, I didnt think to pull it back and look.

BTW did you see the link I posted for the powermadd risers?
You mentioned on Saturday @ Paul's that you could not find the 2" rise 7/8 - 1 1/8

Thanks for the ADV link too.

I assume I can just drill a couple holes just a hair smaller that the ones in the stock bars and thread the screws into them to remount the left grip. Unless anyone has any better ideas.

That should work if your bars are aluminum. Be careful that the set screw is going in straight.

I want with the Pro Taper Med. atv 7/8 bars, these are the same bend I used on my KLR. These are an inch higher and to me feel just right, I had to tap ( with a hammer) the grips onto the bars as the Terra's bars are 22mm and this is just a bit smaller than the 7/8 . It's a press fit and all is well. No need for the screws. I felt that the higher bars without buying some kind of riser was the way to go. Much less weight than the steel bars, and at around $35 a good deal.
I took the stock bars off , went to the dealer and went through the dealers stock of bars until i found some thing I liked.
