I'm 59 years old and still take riding lessons... you never stop learning and accomplishing things on a bike!:oldman:

I'll quit riding when I stop trying to get better. Better doesn't have to necessarily mean faster, just better

I have been riding pretty much non stop since 6th grade and I am 49. I feel I'm not learning a ton now nor do I feel I need to or want to. I'm actually actively not racing but a select few races when I feel like it which is usually ISDE's as i love that formate and long rides. I know gobs of guys around here in there 50's that are stinking fast. Tough old bastards that still ride and race a lot. I'm starting to get content with trail riding and enjoying tackling obstacles and just enjoying the ride with nothing to prove. I guess my point is enjoy whatever you are doing on a bike and ride more. I am also enjoying setting up bikes so I can ride as efficient and comfortable as I can. These darn motorsikles are fun.

Unfortunately, I have no natural talent on a motorcycle and learned to ride 50 years ago, when you sat on the back of the bike and never touched the front brake. I'm just trying to bring my riding style into the 21st Century!:oldman:

I hear you man, I still tend to steer with the rear too as like you spend the good part of my learning on bike that wont turn.

Time sorts out the boys and leaves only the tough old fast guys.

That's true ... But, I'm finding that even if I know what to do, I might forget it at the moment I need it OR just can't get it all done quickly enough ...

Age 59? Congrats and that age is blessed by more than 1 GOV retirement account (actually 59 yrs, 6 months)... Your setting the correct example here for all of us to follow just by staying alive :). That age is a golden goal I certainly hope to obtain ...

Really? That seems relatively young to me. I plan to live a good 15+ years past that. I know several 70 plus guys still riding, and riding well.

I didn't feel old until Ray said that.... I was sitting at my dirt bike club meeting last night with 2 guys in their late 70's. One still races enduros and hare scrambles and just retired from work last year. He would of stayed, but they sort of pushed him out. The other runs a Machine/Fab shop and is at work 6AM every morning, on the floor working. He's our main trail boss and can out work me in the woods. He quit racing 10 years ago and regrets it now. These guys are my inspiration!:oldman:

I really hope I'm healthy enough to ride through my 60's-70's. It'd suck to finally have the time to do it as often as I'd want and not be able too. I think the key is to never quit riding, keeps you young :)

I believe the Terra is 58hp at the crank shaft. Both the 450 and 501 are also 60hp at the crankshaft. My 511 is 61hp at the rear wheel, I have no way of measuring it at the crankshaft.

Yesterday I spent the morning with Ty, Justin Morgan and Jacob Argubright while they got their bikes ready for a morning ride. Ty and I were testing a new injector on his FC450. He rode around the back of the warehouse and punched it. He shot out the front in a wheelie as if he were shot out of a cannon. The bikes are very powerful, stock.

Maybe you are not aware, but IRA monies are released at the age(59.5) ... That's what the golden part is ... That money was put there out of my paychecks mostly and has stayed liquid pretty much through the yrs but not always so the PROs have had their fun with it. I'm ready to recoup what is rightfully mine, at <= age 59.5 and have my fun with it. Yep, retirement monies will be a reality for some of us if we can keep the ticker ticking. It is weird seeing that day so close because, you know, when this started decades ago ...it really seemed like a pipe dream.

oops on your age thing ... Certainly not what I was thinking about or intending ... But myself, If I could flash forward to your age with the snap of my fingers, I'd do it now ...Myself, I have no problem with getting older because the alternative is not what I'm looking for ...

As far as your friends working so long ...You gotta keep busy with something ... Its all just a way to occupy your noodle really ...Jack Lalanne said it best... "the only way to hurt the human body is NOT use it". Maybe we all can be that physically fit at their ages :) .. 1 key to that is keep the body & mind going and nothing does that better than riding a motorcycle!

(There are a couple old timers (70-80 yrs old?) I see here pushing carts of bags full of dirt in my area a couple times a week ... easily 3-400 lbs or more ... They speak english pretty good so I told them to use my small truck to move the dirt ... They always say yes to the truck but they will never use it ... Pushing those carts keeps them going...So now I always holler when I pass them "Get the truck!!" as a joke because, these old timers are gonna work it out without the truck. )
