I would like to lower my SM630 about an inch but I would have to figure out a shorter kick stand. On flat ground the bike already sits almost straight up when on the stand - any more and a small gust of wind would tip it over.
I took mine to my favorite welder and had it shortened. He cut off the foot, took some length out, welded the foot back on. It actually sits better now than it did stock After my 2-week riding vacation last week I need to get it welded again, only this time at the top Good thing I was in the mountains and not in the desert, as the bike spent about a week leaning against trees
That's one thing they fixed with the 630, but I'm sure the beefy aluminum stand is a bit heavier... It's still got the annoying auto-retract, until you cut off the pivot bolt nub.
I started riding adult sized bikes back in the 4" suspension days and I couldn't touch then. About the time I grew to my Mommy's size, suspensions tripled and I couldn't touch then either. Now, I am half the distance between my Fathers and Mothers size and on a modern bike, I can only touch with one foot - and if it is a thumper, can't hold it up very long. I've learned to just not to put my feet down! Or Stop.
I have a short inseam and initially thought of lowering the bike, but decided that it is me who has to adapt not the bike. Learn to be fast and hang of the side with one foot down, where necessary. I prefer to have all the suspension travel that is available, when handling the tight stuff with the extra 50 lbs bike weight compared to a pure dirt bike, I need it.
...none of you guys use the Koubalink? They have the 1" lower and 1.5" lower, though the 1.5" requires some grinding on the swingarm. Alot more grinding than I suspected...but I just did it and I can pretty much flatfoot with my offroad boots on. Much more comfy now.
I do! 1" links and lowered the front forks to the 3rd line. Still handles great and when I get stuck in the rocks I don't fall over!
