that force field stuff looks nice. What I would really like to find is a shoulder guard that wraps around to cover the front of the bicep. When I start racing the fireroads with my buddys, I get nailed with easter egg sized roost. Not to mention every branch I pass seems to reach out for me

Me too, let a neighbor on a DS lead recently and couldn't believe all the rocks his old DR threw at me. And branch slap is a serious issue around here, especially now that all the briars and brambles are back with a vengeance. That's why I still like the looks of the EVS G6 armor:

Also the optional, integrated drink bladder sounds good.

Good info, thanks all. I don't wear a neck brace, if I haven't broke my neck by now....
The Leatt gear looks top notch, TLD too. Both at the top of the list. Forcefield and a couple others are just out of my price range. I sure hope that stuff is union made in the US for that price

Yea, body types and preferences make the choices more difficult. I'm 5'11 @ 160lb, need to add some padding since I don't have much of my own. Common sense tells me hard shell protection should protect more, but that may not be absolutely true anymore  The soft shell stuff all looks really hot to me too. May be fine in cool temps, but hot and humid here for 6 months out of the year.

Anyway, gotta get by cheap until my next round of work, so ordered up the Fox Pro Frame on sale at Chaparral for @ $70.

i run the fox chest protector(take back panel off altogether-good feature that you can do that) only as i normally wear a back pack & the back plate/shoulder guards if installed make it very difficult. really only for roost protection riding on gravel roads/rocky trails. hurts coppin a rock to the sternum at pace!

So had the Fox Pro Frame roost deflector for about a month now and like it. Made in China, but seems good quality, not flimsy or thin, adjustable and good fit. Most importantly, I don't notice it while riding, don't get gouged and scratched as much and feel confident I'm not going to get skewered. FoxProFrame1.jpg
An old Flak Jak for comparison which was my fav a decade or 2 ago.

The 2014 model of the Fox is $30 less than the 2015 model, they look the same and not sure what the difference is:

haha...FlakJak is officially retired. I was tempted to revive it though at some point. Crashed many times and no shoulder injuries with that gear, hoping to continue the no injuries part, still working on the crashing part

We just did a race here and must have been at least 4 guys walking around afterwards with their arms in a sling where they fell and hit their shoulders ... Maybe 1 broken collar bone, not sure ...

Myself, I have to have shoulder protection, roost guard\chest protector is what holds the shoulder guards onto my body ... It has helped many times when I hit the ground ... I did break a bone wearing protection once here; This was 100% rider error and I have not made that same mistake since that time 4 yrs ago .... I make new riding mistakes now ...

Yes they do. They also make the vest for klim. Their big market is sno cross I think. I've worn one for 5 years. I'm on my second now as my first one was damaged beyond repair when I got run over in a harescramble. I got up and finished the race. It wasn't until after that I had a look at the vest and decided to send it back for repair. Tekrider contacted me, told me that it was beyond repair and asked if I would let them keep it for their showroom. I got a new for a token price. When I picked my new vest up at the factory, the owner showed me the damage. He figured afoot peg probably would have opened up my side quite badly and there were heat burns on the material likely from an exhaust. Had I not been wearing it things probably wouldn't have turned out very well.

I think the Atlas is the best neck support compared to the others but it also requires more room in the front and back at the collar. In other words the chest protector must be low cut because the supports of the Atlas spread out more and cover your collar bones and back of your shoulders. The Troy Lee has the best clearance for the Atlas but still is a little tight. This will vary depending on how you're built and tall and lanky never seems to be considered when it comes to gear or clothing fitting.

The Titan has done a good job for me. Landing on forearms, elbows, shoulders, and the back once. I have considered removing the back pad as I wear a large camel back. But not sure if I should depend on the camel back. The only drawback is it does get hot in the summer. Is there anything that offers the same level of protection that is not so hot? (old bones)

    Maybe the EVS G6 Lite
    g6lite-armor.jpg
It has an optional integrated drink bladder too
    g6-armor-bladder.jpg
Around here it's not only 80-90F degrees, but the humidity is also 80-90% for up to @ 5-6 months, so thinking a vented CP with good shoulder protection (Fox Airframe maybe) during hot weather and then switch back to full body armor when it cools off.
It looks to me like the Leatt stuff is the most protective in the under $200 range, but also will be too hot for me in the summer.

I have Leatt 5.5 pro. It broke apart after 6 month of use. Shoulder cups separated.

Leatt and revzilla issued full refund 3 days after I emailed them picture of the failure. Great companies and they stand by their products.

Thanks for that info. Is the Leatt overpriced, imported junk too. WTF? What did you replace it with?

BYW...Atlas has a chest protector just bought it. Fits perfect with the Atlas brace...but offers NO protection other than deflecting roost.

I do think that Leatt is expensive, but they make good product and cust service is top notch. I did test Leatt gear quiet few times and protection it offers is very good.

I am not sure what I will replace it with, that's why I was reading this thread :)

I am thinking about new Leatt at this time but I will check out this EVS G6 S well
