So what batteries does it take and what would you say duration is? I am thinking of one for my wr300(could I hard wire it somewhere). I have an awesome garmin hxc now. Problem is I have tried several different mounts and cases and they are all cumbersome and or awkward as heck. I love the idea of this thing
Runs off a internal bat or wired up. i would wire it up. Will be installing one shortly on my TE511 so i will let you know the details here. And i was just out at Trailtech and Geoff (the owner) showed me the prototype guard / mount for it available shortly. It is a really nice part and allows you to screw down the guard and then drop int he GPS with windows for the micro SD card and such so no removing it. remote antenna coming soon as well. Shot a quick cell pic of the guard... as you can see has cool little recessions for the controls.
Just what I have been looking for, for quite a while now....an "all-in-one" unit.... Have downloaded and "digested" the user manual, and have to say that I am quite impressed with the units functionality. My only suggestion would be that they possibly include a Maintenance function in the menu....(perhaps you could pass this request onto them please Kelly.) Just placed an order for a "Voyager" for my TE250 via the Motosportz site.... I currenty have a draw full of Magellan GPS units...If the "Voyager" works as described they will soon be on eBay..
Well, I bit the bullet and purchased a TrailTech Voyager from Motosportz....Thanks Kelly My son Scott called around this morning and we had it fully installed in around an hour or so. All very straight forward, just a matter of connecting up the power from the battery, install the new speedo sender cable, fit the temperature sender in the water outlet line, and then take a few turns around the spark plug lead for the ignition sender. Only thing left to do was to figure out the circumference of the front wheel for accurate speed and odometer readings. Then it was just a matter of keying in the accumulated odometer reading and total hours from the original speedo. Turned it on, and it locked onto a swag of satellites almost in a blink of an eye.... Programmed in the engine tachometer to one of the customisable "User" menu's and fired up the bike......Pleased to say that everything worked as advertised. This is a very professional unit that appears to be built to take the hard knocks associated with trailriding. It replaces my original speedo and adds a wealth of functionality, including, believe it or not, a fully functioning GPS. (The only downside, if you could call it that, is the inability to load maps.) The unit is aimed directly at trailriders, with the ability to load in 300 Trails, 300 Routes and 300 Waypoints. The trails are in .gpx format so trails are easily exchanged with users of most brands of GPS. They also have the ability to be viewed on Google Earth. The unit can be upgraded via software, with the manufacturer promising plenty of future enhancements and new features including a lap timing function that will be linked into the gps... Some suggested enhancements that I would consider improve the Voyager, would be to include maintenance intervals and the ability for the temperature sender to switch a fan. Also a substantial anchor point for attaching a security lanyard would be appreciated. I have taken the precaution of mounting mine behind the bars to protect it. Hoping to get out on the trails tomorrow and see how it performs....
Looks good mate, it'll be interesting to see how it goes. Just one question, dose it have a background light for riding at night?
Yes it does..... Assuming that you have the unit mounted on the bike and powered from the bikes battery In the Utility menu under Power Settings you have the ability to set the Backlight > Timeout (External Battery) to "Always On"..
