I'd like to start looking for an 82 250WR cylinder. If you have some photos of what to look for please post. This is an older thread and most of the photo links no longer work.

Restoring two more bikes: 82 and 83 250XC's. Would like to run one with the WR cylinder.

I fitted a '82 WR cylinder to my 250XC, made a big difference. Before on a long steep climb the power would just die off. Now even at low revs it still pulls. Don't get me wrong, it's not an XR600, but it has made the bike much more ridable in tight going. I've also fitted a slightly thinner base gasket to lower the exhaust port and raise the compression slightly, every little helps!

Thanks, but it's not the head. It's the cylinder that matters.

Sorry I didn't take any pics before I fitted it. The internal porting is different to the XC if you look at them together. I hope you manage to find one.

I have not called them about this particular project... yet. I'm months away from finishing the bike.

I did call them about my 82 175 HP kit build. The guy I talked to says they do have specs for th3 82 175 cylinder. In fact, they can copy any cylinder and make a sleeve.
BUT... The port windows in the cylinder casting are different on that elusive 82 250WR cylinder. So I'll just keep an eye out. Thanks for the ideas, though.

I have what I think is a '82 250WR cylinder... at least that is what I was told when I bought it. Here are some photos - I hope this helps.

Need to see more of the base from the intake side. If it doesn't have the two openings at the base in front of the reed valve then it would be the WR cylinder.

Here is a closeup of the intake side at the base. I am pretty sure this is a WR cylinder - I found a “03” stamped on the cylinder which lines up with the WR part number suffix from the ’82 parts manual.
