I'm at just over 13K miles and she's running fine with a Wookua plug and recently added pod mod. Haven't touched the plugs yet.
Hansi- I took my bike to the orlando husqvarna and bmw dealership at 7k miles and they said they were in spec and I would not probably have to adjust them until the third or fourth check. I am going to take the bike to to the ktm dealership in Jacksonville shortly and have them recheck every thing. It could turn out I paid for the valve check in Orlando and they were smoking crack that day. They did forget to torque the axle nut on the rear tire when they replaced it and added the new chain. When I got home I could move it with my fingers and luckily it did not cause more severe damage. I do not think the plugs are the problem, at this point. I am wondering if this is more in the way of spun crank bearings or bad case bearings. This would make better since. I want to believe that it is spark plugs. That is the easy fix. I think the few of us experiencing this might find the reality a little more complicated and have to tear into the motor. I really hope I am wrong with this..
Have you done a filter mod of anykind? If not, maybe excess dust got your top end. Nyjoytheride had that unpleasant experience from excess debri scoring his cylinders.
No Mod, although no dirt roads either. I am assembling the parts for the 3d printed mod as we speak. Mostly clean open roads back and fourth from my house and office. Have sealed the filter to the cage well. Have not been able to see any dirt build up but could be possible end result. I did not know this but with dual spark plugs slight variances can lead to these vibrations. So the spark plug issue may be it. Have an employee who has been a long time air plane mechanic explain the reason why spark plugs could be the culprit. Going to take out the plugs re gap and see what happens. That would be amazing if it went back to normal for that reason alone.
I just spent some time looking for plugs. BMW dealer can get em with a day turnaround for $17. Here's the deal. The plug I removed was a mar9a-6j. 10mm thread BMW G650GS uses a dr8eb 12mm thread The parts guy pulled a new NGK book and looked up the Terra. NGK mar9a-j is what is called for. Yes, the very first parts book I have run across with the Terra listed. Husky dealer says mar9a-j-g-06 Se we started to decipher what all the numbers meant. ma=10mm r=resistor 9a = heat range (just exactly what the a is we did not figure out) J=dual ground What the 6j or G 06 all mean, the guess is the OEM part numbers that nobody else can order. Did not find a cross reference to any other plugs. Cannot find any 10mm indexing washers. I will try a Harley performance shop. They seem to run the 10mm plugs. RA-"I am wondering if this is more in the way of spun crank bearings or bad case bearings." If you had bad bearings you would know by now, as in I don't think the bike will run very long before exploding, with bad bearings. But thinking out loud, what if clutch packs or something in there shift? Dang I want a Rekluse.
56% humidity today....low for florida and gased up from diff station. Had more out of hole power as i expected....with temp low in am. To me it sounds like it hammers on acceleration. Maybe Orlando dealer....did valve job wrong....dont know.I still get the same milage as when i first installed the wuka. I was a tad over filled with oil...and drained some....will test again. I also did the vap can removal....long time ago and i may need a new rubber cap on the hose to the throttlebody. Bike never stalls but more noise the last 3000 miles.
I noticed the same thing with the plugs as mag when I spoke to NGK. The last numbers are for internal parts numbers. You can order the cheapest through NGK directly on their website the cheapest I have found. Second is Amazon The orlando dealer and daytona dealers are confirmed a joke to say the least. Sucks they are the closest to me in distance 30 minutes and an hour and half. Going to check with KTM in Jacksonville if they will work on the bike next time or just do every thing myself so I know what is done right or wrong. I hate guessing on some thing I just paid $400 for a professional to screw up. I need to get a second bike so I can take my time to maintain right. Only have weekends to do anything. This weekend going to pull the plugs and find out whats going.
Halls has them for $36.75 each..yikes!: http://www.halls-cycles.com/default.asp?page=xstore&keyword=8523867&submit1=Search The Green Spark Plug Company appears to have them in stock I did a mock purchase and two of them shipped from the UK to Arkansas was $43.08 and that beats stateside prices: http://www.gsparkplug.com/shop/spark-plugs/spark-plugs/ngk-mar9a-j.html I did find this mention on the NGK website with "call for price": http://ngk-sparkplugs.com/mar9aj-p-2877.html
The post I made was from the NGK website they are running a special for $12.10 per plug. You would go to NGK.com if you click that iut will take you there.

Thank you. I just ordered two. Now I need to find a case for the plugs and carry them in the tank bag.
Grabbed me two also. I tried getting some index washers from Sudco, and they will not sell to general public. Plus they want 8 bucks shipping to my local MC parts store. Need a better place to buy them.
Riding again....thanks for the plug info....Will order monday. Put on new rubber plug on hose to throttle-body. Got my oil level right and adjusted my altrider skid plate.....@ swingarm as that was most of the hammering noise. @ 17900 mls it still makes good power.....best when temp and humidity is lower.
St pete....hope new plugs will be the answer. As about first 3000 and last 2000 mls on bike have been mostly city. Somebody said to me that city riding could wear down the water pump faster....on the bmw 650 engine. Does anyone hear the oil in frame res tank (gurgle) when removing the dipstick.... Upon checking level....i have been hearing this lately. Don't remember it so much last year.
You reminded me of some oil sucked out of my terra at around 5 000km thanks mate. Does it ping and rattle above 4000rpm and under 5000rpm. Hows your coolant look? Does the under side of your Radiator cap smell of burnt gas? Any black sediment in your translucent coolant tank? BTW - for your sakes I hope "No" to all of the above is the answer. But secretly I really selfishly want to find another Terra that is rooted just like mine. Cheers, Q
Pings and rattles....yes under load Coolant just changed to engine ice....about 500 mls ago and smells the same in tank and on cap....no oil smell looks good. But....the old oem that i add distilled water to top off after bleeding at first 400 miles...did have some grayish clear slimy bits....At about 17200 mls when draining the res.... Thought that was strange but still cooled fine.
Hope yours is fine. I don't have an oil smell. Burnt gas. It's never got hot or over heated in any way. But repeated hard throttle inputs up and down in a big gear 3-6000rpms over and over for around only 6miles after up to normal temperature made mine gas up enough to vomit coolant without getting hot. Found this out by accident really while trying to unsuccessfully reduce the engine rattle via the AF-Xied settings. May have been the most subtle of exhaust flutter or miss while cruising. The mechanic changed my coolant out for some real flash stuff and thought it was fixed. I test rode it, hey its a bar or two cooler on the gauge but sure enough without a temperature rise a fountain of coolant came streaming out again. Cheers, Q
When i start bike and just let it warm to two or three bars and run down the road...its smoother. When hot vibes start hammering. Thats just what i have tested days ago. Both wuka spoof temp settings....seem about the same with not much between them. I run on the hotter setting. Btw engine ice is no better any oem just darker blue....imho. Still get the same bars. Stock exhaust Have uni pod filter mod...but not installed yet. Dam this bike was great until it came back to florida with it.
