I don't think you're "hogging" this thread at all (what a funny word!) but I welcome any and all conversation from those that have first-hand knowledge! It's something that 99% of us will never get to do, and I, for one, really enjoy hearing about all the stuff that doesn't make it to the official Dakar website or the TV coverage. I've sat through a few slide shows and Q & A sessions with Dakar finishers before and it never ceases to fascinate me. WoodsChick

Hope he's okay & it's not too bad. Damn, Jonah's out, hand hurts too much, can't hold on to the handlebars. You gave them hell Jonah & showed you're a force to be respected.
Yes, a huge dissappointment for Street. He's had to have caught the eye of the factory with the rid he's put in. Overall this rALLY IS QUITE A RACE. wHEN i FIRST HEARD IT WAS MOVING CONTINENTS i THOUGHT THAT NOTHING COULD COMPARE TO aFRICA BUT THIS LOCATION HAS PROVED TO BE AWESOME. :smashpc: dAMN cAP LOCK!!!
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The terrain is beautiful and looks to be quite challenging in spots. It's a bit bizarre, though, that the rallye is still called "Dakar" but I guess the name recognition is worth a lot in terms of money and panache. Kinda like, I dunno...I'm going to race the Suzuka 8 Hour...at Assen. Or the 24 Hours of Glen Helen at Hangtown. WoodsChick
How fast fortunes can change in racing. Bravo to Street for his great ride! I am now rooting for Fretigne on the WR450!! and always for Peterhansel in cars now.

I missed the 2nd part - Jonah is completely out of the race? Any links to updates about him like a blog or something?
Don't know about a blog, but here's his team forum discussion http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=387838 page 19, post 282 is the first its mentioned that he's out of the rally. If you're ambitious, there's a monster Discussion here about the Rally http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=417706

Due to the last stage, I'm not sure of the exact reason, a whole lotta people got a 4 hr penalty. 73 126 PAVEY (AUS) BMW 73:04:54 25:13:24 15:00 78 093 SEEL (SWE) KTM 73:54:50 26:03:20 03:00 79 178 SCHIANO (FRA) SHERCO 74:14:25 26:22:55 04:00:00 80 199 SANCHEZ TAPIA (ESP) KTM 75:28:04 27:36:34 09:00 81 138 VAN DER LAAN (NLD) HUSQVARNA 75:36:39 27:45:09 07:12:00 But its still not as bad as Merkit. Looks like the 31st Dakar is over. Final standings as of now 75 199 SANCHEZ TAPIA (ESP) KTM 81:13:20 28:58:47 09:00 76 093 SEEL (SWE) KTM 81:14:58 29:00:25 04:26:00 77 138 VAN DER LAAN (NLD) HUSQVARNA 81:19:46 29:05:13 07:12:00 78 123 VAN OLST (NLD) KTM 81:40:45 29:26:12 Another notch in the Husky belt. Big Congrats on Johan, you did Husky proud Here's to hoping there's many more Husky's in next year Dakar
Thanks for keeping us updated Ruffus! 235 bikes started, 113 finished. It looks to me like the Husky got #77, but really don't know how to navigate that site too well. http://www.dakar.com/2009/DAK/LIVE/us/1400/classement/CGM.html
Your right Dean, it keeps changing. I guess as they keep doing the math & any possible protest's against the penalty times, it'll keep changing for a few more days
