Here's just 1 of a couple threads on the PCV http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/power-commander-5-distributors.34781/
So you're saying that Husqvarna NA Corporate will MOSS the bike? They're a half hours ride from me and I would be interested in this service. Do you have any contact information for this or did you hear it through your dealer? The reason I say this is that I doesn't look like there's a shop at their location, it's in an office park. If they do have a MOSS tool I'd love to be able to just roll up, hook the bike up, and ride home. My local dealer sent their tool back and I haven't found an alternative yet.
My guess is that they would hook up the ECU to a MOSS on an office desk, or perhaps send it out to a dealership to be done. I really doubt they'd do any routine bike tuning at their head office, even if there were no dealers locally.
Amazingly enough - it was a local KTM dealer that gave me Husky's number. I called and talked with someone who said I needed to speak with someone else but he was out. I left a message and he called me back the following day and we discussed the issue at length. However, I cannot recall his name. I'm sure I have the number at home somewhere (at my office now) but the impression I got was that I was to have PJ's send it to them (there at their office) - From the way he made it sound, they had a mechanical/maintenance facility where they could just install the equipment there and run the Moss. If I can come up with the number - I'll let you know.
There is a diagnostic / tune up tool for the BMW bikes, or BMW based bikes (Nuda, TR650s) that is called a "MOSS". Liberties have been taken, and that noun has occasionally been used as an adjective, i.e. "MOSSED". Not a lot of dealers have the MOSS tool, because the bikes needing the MOSS tool are going to be phased out, and because the MOSS is expensive.
I have taken the path of least resistance and taken Husky up on their offer. My dealer, who had two Moss tools but returned them, is removing my ECU and accompanying equipment and sending it to Husqvarna in So. California where they will work their Moss tool wonders on it and return it to my dealer post haste to have re-installed. I sure hope it clears up the issue of stalling and sputtering below 3,000 RPM - It's just gutless. My co-worker has the same bike but has not experienced that issue at all - However, he has had the radiator woes. They are looking at my overheating issues as a multi-step process so they've flushed the system and put in new fluid and then insured it was 'burped'. If that doesn't solve the issue, then I think they try the thermostat and then the radiator. According to my dealer, they've experienced quite a few overheating issues. I just want this bike to be right! It's such a nice bike.
I had my TR mossed yesterday and had a chance to talk to the service manager for a while. He said the TR is the only bike they sell that uses the Moss tool. They were forced to buy it for $5000 and have used it only about 20 times. They tried to return it but were denied that opportunity so they're stuck with it. Each time they use it they don't know if they will be able to link up with the "Husky mothership computer" and suspect that one day it will no longer work. They will then have a $5000 paper weight. Not very encouraging, huh?
It is a large outlay for a motorbike dealer to tool up for a couple of bikes that are now out of production. As a mechanic who is responsible for tooling up for diagnostics & interfacing for dyno testing, it is frustrating having to purchase new software & hardware for new product for it then to sit in a cupboard for a couple of years!
After some months things are looking better. Update on my situation- I went down to the KTM dealership today and good news. The KTM dealership here in Reno has taken possession of the Husqvarnas that were at the dealer that sold me my TR650. They will be the sole Husqvarna dealership here in Reno going forward and have every intention on supporting and selling these motorcycles. As of today they had one Strada in stock. I spoke to the owner Mark and his wife at length. They were really genuine and helpful. We exchanged email addresses and will be in contact regarding the MOSS diagnostic tool and when they will be ready to use it. They said they are still in the process of getting trained and ready to service Huskys as a dealership and they are fairly sure the previous dealership gave them the MOSS tool. When I find out more I will give updates.
Nice to know he's got the tool. Stopped in the other day, but forgot to ask about it. He did offer a copy of the service manual to me after he had a chance to look at it. Glad he took it over, didn't really like doing business with the other guy.
Scutler, Glad to hear that they are taking care of the good people of Reno! You might consider adding them to this thread. http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/the-list-of-supportive-tr650-dealers.37266/#post-367576 It's a place for other TR650 owners to find good dealers who are fully supporting these bikes.
Most definitely, once their MOSS tool is up and running I will add them to the list. They are not quiete ready to service our bikes and I will be in contact with them as they figure out the MOSS tool.
