I agree with you kyle and OHR, only thing is it is a very odd quirk to have a spark consistently die after a regular period of running time. I haven't heard of that occuring before. But it definitely needs to be checked immediately after failure, especially with the same plug for the sake of continuity.

    Agreed.

On my Duc, it had a bunch of starting problems, and yet with a clean plug the spark looked really good. Eventually I pulled the plugs there were in it and did the test with them, and it had almost zero spark. Bike still had the original plugs in it, and they were fouled, beat up, and just plain-old dead.

It's been a while since posting. I have taken the bike out for demanding rides and it hasn't missed a beat. I havent changed anything, as I was still waiting for it to fail so I could check for spark. Strange behaviour. Will keep you posted if anything changes. Because im enjoying the bike more im in the proccess of customising with carbon fibre...I will post pics when all done. Thanks for your help every-one. :)

Had a similar problem on an old honda cr250. Would only die warmed up. Checked the resistance on the Cdi it was a bit off. Threw a new one on problem solved.

I didn't have the sense to check the spark when it would die. But same symptoms.

Pull the tank, look for the blue and white wires around and going to the coil.
Have seen this, the crimp on the connections was loose if it 's the problem a good tug will seperate them.
    Later George

Mate how did you check the resistance of the CDI...?

Hey Thanks George...I will definately have a second look at these wires. My problem seems like a resistance type...in that the bike would start a run perfectly for a time, and then begin to hesitate and loose power before completely shutting down. When this happens nothing will start the engine. After waiting some time, (maybe 15-20 minutes) the engine would fire up and run again...sometimes for another 60 kms of hard riding. I think it's possessed..! :) The last two rides the bike has not missed a beat..! Tough terrain/conditions 70km and 107km rides. Interestingly the weather has been very cold 8-10 degrees and below sometimes down to 2 degrees near snowline...which in my mind accounts for the bike running well. (ie) not enough heat to build up resistance problems.

multimeter going to the leads/coil if I remember correctly. Found the resistances online.
