So I spoke to Noel at Pipeworktechniques down on the Gold Coast. I'm going to go pay him a visit with the bike later in the week or next week. He's keen to see what we can come up with, and will guarantee the work. He's supposedly thorough with back pressure checks, etc. We'll go over the options and I'll keep you all posted. No luck reaching Screaming Demons again. Will keep trying.
I would be looking for a new mechanic asap.... Fouling the Cats - Rubbish, due to the way the Cats are fitted inside the exhaust, if they were fouled you would not be going anywhere. Lack of Back pressure - Hmmm, maybe he is really sure it is a two-stroke ?? I did the De-Cat mod this weekend, easy job but takes time as you have to chip away at the Cat material which is quite dense. The effect is IMHO all good, the bike seems to run more freely and the noise level has increased but only very slightly. Best thing of all is that my co-pilot girlfriend who knows absolutely nothing about bikes or engines has already remarked that she doesn't feel the exhaust pipes getting so hot now and asked what had I done. Along with the Cannisterectomy, my two mods this week have made a great difference to the running of the bike, cooler at the front and the back. OK, so now it doesn't meet the US or EU construction regulations for Emission, but I live in the Philippines, different story here.
Gear head, yes I'd love to see them on the bike. Not to hijack thread, but today is exciting mod day... Going in to get seat customised! Woohoo! No more sore arse! Hopefully exhaust will be next and very soon. Have the BP and dying to put it on.

Hes new school trained and up with diagnostics , a tradesman and quite methodical and open in his approach to problems for a young guy. And I value his input. Im old school and I think this is a good combination. (some) Exhaust back pressure in a 4 stroke does improve scavenging.. Fouling the cats is doable. But I doubt that you would lose both cats at once. I have hearing also . Looking for a another solution. With chain, sprockets, tyres, mossing, oils etc coming all at once, and I thought the pod mod more important to achieve. The exhaust will have to wait.

AzOzRider, Yesterday at 11:24 AM House Keeping Thanks for the info re MEP, Shoot me a PM when you go to the coast, I may be able to ride along. also My son & I are going camping Friday night. Riding all day Friday and Saturday at Queensland Moto Park at Boonah, come out
Hey PaulC, It looks like you're just copy and pasting text rather than using the reply button so when you're quoting other posts they don't render properly as quotes. It makes it hard to work out who's saying what.
I will do so. Thinking maybe Friday or early next week. Love to do the camping, but we are penciled in to go up to Hervey Bay this w/e. If that comes apart I'll certainly reach out! Just thinking way out of the box... Anyone tried putting a couple small slip-on cans on a TR? Be kinda loud I guess, but wondering how it would do.
Hi Nev, yes that function doesn't work for me, and hasn't for some time. I have put requests in a couple of times and maybe theres something wrong at my end or perhaps I'm to controversial. Sorry for the confusion
He may well be, however your mechanic is still incorrect when he says your prolonged use of the Booster Plug has or will cause fouling of the Cats - Many guys here have been running a BP or similar AFR adjustment equipment for a lot longer and have absolutely no Cat issues. As I said - They way they are fitted in the exhaust, if they were fouled you would soon know as the engine performance would be severely affected. He is also maybe thinking a little too technically and talking rubbish when he says Cat Removal, particularly on a TR650, will have a detrimental effect on performance due to loss of back pressure. Back Pressure is very important in a two stroke but in a four stroke it is all about free flow, just take a look at how much exhaust BP all the high performance (non-turbocharged) racing engines have - for example Drag Cars have none whatsoever. Again, I have not read of any TR650 owner who has run a Booster Plug or any form of AFR adjustment equipment having any long term cat fouling issues. Similarly I have not read of anyone who has removed the Cats having any reduced performance issues either. Cat removal is all good, the engine runs freely and the exhausts run much cooler too - Dont wait, just do it.
If the reply-button doesn't insert the quote automatically, it's possible to just quote a post (without the author's name) by copy+pasting the quoted text into your reply, then highlight that section and click the the blue" on the toolbar above.
Actually, not true, the ECU will compensate for the improved gas flow as will the booster Plug, I'm running a GPR single can, saved nearly 9 kilos of weight
I am keen to understand how you have saved nearly 9 Kg. Original cans are 3.9 each so total removal achieves 7.8, then fitting a GPR can will add 1.8 - 2.5 depending on the model. My plan was to fit a GPR, but when I did the calcs I could reduce the weight by a maximum of 6 Kg with the most expensive titanium model and for the price it simply wasn't worth it. Although I quite like the original dual pipe look, a single pipe, particularly the GPR, somehow fits the style of the bike better. I would buy and fit a GPR but it wouldn't be for weight saving alone. Instead I would prefer to do it as a total re-tune of the engine, but until we can break into the ECU codes and get a complete package, the GPR stays on the shelf. A much more viable option at present is to remove one original can and explore the possibility of opening up the remaining can to allow the engine to breath properly on the single pipe. Leaving the ECU standard, it will, as you say, compensate for the improved airflow, mainly based upon Lambda feedback. I have already performed the De-Cat and it has saved some weight and also the engine seems to run more freely, but the more positively the exhausts are much cooler now, which is a bonus for my co-pilot here in the tropics.
To answer you're first question, it didn't help with the low end stumble. That went away immediately after I installed the wooka booster plug from bill, then it all went away(still running that to this day) Here's a picture of what they look like, excellent fitment, fantastic looking design, etc. Sounds absolutely amazing, I run mine without the included baffles.
Yes, look great! You aren't running stock covers over them? They run much cooler I imagine. So I caught up with Chris at SD yesterday. He says if we get 5+ committed buyers, he will order another run. They buld in runs of 30. Also, the more we will agree to, the better discount he will give us. I know I want a set, DeLewis said to put him down for a set. Anyone else up for a set? Still planning to visit pipeworktechniques in next few days as well. Guessing he will be more expensive though, as he would be starting from scratch.
The exhaust has enough pulse coming from it I can't do a standing still video. I'll have to ask the wife to record me doing a rolling sound test of it, so if/when she's OK with it and when the weather permits I'll get a sound clip.
Anyone know how wide these are compared with stock. I have racks and would be sad if they didnt fit. £575 is a lot of other farkles. Cant find details on site
I've been using the GPR single can for over 10,000klms, dramatic improvement, I've got photos on my Tablet will post later I have Andy Strapz soft expedition panniers, plenty of clearance
