Interesting the things you always seem to find in the desert. :)

This time it was a ADVrider.

Got up the next morning before sunrise and had a nice soak...

Air temp: 27 degrees. Water temp: 102 degrees

Max loaded up and headed home, Eric and I headed for
the wildlife refuge. I love these guys!

Lots of Pronghorn antelope out here...

    Lots of water, too...

    Hey! Let's go thattaway!

This photo cracks me up, makes it look like Eric doesn't know how to ride :) We're heading for that gorge off to the right, I think...

    Yep, I was right...

Looking back the way we'd come after climbing out of the gorge...

This guy was lonely. He walked towards us for a long time, then
stopped to eat. We left him alone...

This guy wasn't lonely, just curious. He was part of a pack of
coyotes we'd seen running pell mell through the sage. He stood
there for a long time before joining his mates...

    The plateaus are pretty rocky...

    ...and the country is beautiful...

If you find yourself in need of water while in the desert,
    follow the horse trails downhill...

    More to come...

We watched these two nuzzle each other for a long time...

Wish I had video of this young horse prancing through
the sage. He was so beautiful and graceful...

Wild horses are a sturdy lot...

We stopped at one of the many camps that dot the landscape...

And then began the bittersweet ride back towards camp...

It always makes my heart ache a little bit knowing
that the adventure is coming to a close.

We sat by the fire long into the night,
contemplating the ride and wondering where
our next adventure will take us...

Thanks for coming along with us :)

Absolutely gorgeous Woodschick. It brings back so many buried memories from when I was a small kid. My family used to spend about a month a summer in northwestern Nevada until we moved permanently to Montana in 1966. That first little desert pond looks eerily like one we camped on for a couple of weeks once. Every morning there would be at least a half a dozen rattlesnakes under the trailor staying warm. We had a totegoat and a jeep that we would go exploring on every day. We spent a lot of time in those canyons looking for old Paiute indian camps and picking up arrowheads. This was well before we knew this violated a peoples traditions. My dad and mom with friends produced a couple of documentary films on the subject. If I ever manage to find time in my summer I am going to go back and explore that area all over again.

Thank you so much for the wonderful shots and ride reports,
    Walt

I tend to view this site on a crappy low rez 14 inch laptop so after lowering the size to 75% I was able to view it without scrolling from side to side and still be able to read the small print

The only thing I missed at that size was Eric’s facial expressions so I’m glad Coffee said something about it

Anyway Woodsy, I love your style and this one is the best to date
Can’t wait to see how you’re gonna top this one (which I’m absolutely sure you will )

:notworthy: Last picture is money !

Great report! That's nice that you got to go back an finish your trip. The plane crash site looked really interesting. Neat that you got to meet Larryboy too. I just ran into a fellow ADV'r in Bridgeport. We got to talking and he asked if I'd read any of the great ride reports by Woodschick and Larryboy. :D
