Well, it's that time again. Sunday is Rd#1 in Bartow FL. Gonna be a long loop(12.5mi) so 4 laps is a possibility. My question is, should I be prepared to get gas if I need to go the 4th lap? I'm sure the TXC310 will go 3 w/o a problem, but with alot of high speed stuff can I get 50mi out of a tank? Will put up some pics maybe tomorrow, pick up my graphics in the morning. I'm a little behind in my prep but have all day Friday & Sat morn to finish up. This is a fun property to race on, can't wait to race this thing
Our local A rider with a 310 said when he refueled he actually could have finished the 2 hr hare scramble. No harm in checking it Crazy that your season is just starting off. Hope it's even better then last year, I'm looking forward to the reports
We take the summer off and run from Sept to May. Our 1st race was actually postponed bcuz of too much rain. Good to know I can go the distance if I need to. I don't think I'll b on the gas as much as an "A" rider lol.
No, our race(DaytonaDirtRiders) is really the only one on the east coast of the state. All the others are from the center to the west side. There are 3 in the Okechobee area & a 1/2 dozen in the Myakka City & Bartow areas on old mining properties.
Well, first race today with the new Husky. Put a 6.0 spring on the back and hit the practice lap at 8:30 this morning! 12 miles of awesome trail ahead of me. It was rough, roots, sand whoops and a little mud, a few elevation changes(huge for Florida) and our usual grass. Lots of turns, it was really nice. The bike on the other hand, well, it stalled every time I tapped the rear brake, and wouldn't start for at least 2-3 minutes, sometimes five, very discouraging. My 25 minute lap turned into 45 and I bailed at the first sight of an RV(approx. 10 miles in). The best part was about mile 9 when it stalled going into a slippery turn and I went off the track, snapped a small tree in half which decided to flip over and rip a fuel line off and go through my radiator, sweet! I pushed the line back on and limped home. The funny thing is, when the gas was leaking allover the bike and exhaust, for a split second, my brain said, "burn you son of a bi*ch" Oh well, no fire. I've never been too happy with the bike, but this is the last nail in the coffin. I cant ride a bike that doesn't start when it stalls, then again, I've never had a bike stall. POS.
Sorry to hear ya had a bad day Mike, I woulda looked for ya if I knew you were there. I bet it was that REALLY nasty off-camber right hander . My day went a little better. Practice lap was ok, didn't much care for the course. Was fun & challenging but too many face slappers & cut-off tree branches poking back in your direction.(Sorry but a pet peeve of mine when I build my section for our races) Had 32 on our line, got a 8-10th start & went to work. Kept picking off riders in the 1st lap, the score board wasn't working when we went through. About 3 mi into 2nd lap had a little tip-over on a right hander at the top of a hill. Well I didn't know it but 5 guys in my class were tailing me the whole lap And Dale E. who was RIGHT behind me won the class, so I was IN THE LEAD & didn't know it, lol. Got one of the guys back & ended up in 5th. I still need to work on being in the correct gear more, but this thing rips & handles like a dream, & with stock suspenders!! Got a 5 week break until the next race. Ours is in 3wks but I'll be on the quad. Gotta get this stuff sent out & be ready for a win. Mike, how many hrs do ya have on yours? I'm up to about 9hrs & the stalling is now only when I do something stupid, which is still often enuff. Oh, one more thing. Someone had a little drone camera up at the start. Hope they got some good footage.
Ive got the parts ordered and plan on being at your race next month. I'm gonna make this bike work one way or another, I'm definitely getting an education on dirt bike setup! I agree the course was tough, but I know what it takes to build one and was just trying to keep a positive spin on things. As far as the stalling, I guess I just have to ride more, but it really doesn't happen during practice, weird. Not sure whether I should raise the idle or lower the idle, maybe I'll post that question in the 4-stroke section. Maybe its a gearing thing, hmm, not sure. Message me your name and bike number/class and I'll look for you in Daytona, we can have a beer or three together Sat nite. I'm 99c, Green background. Thanks
Here's a short edit of the guy that had the copter-cam at HS#1. He'll have a longer version up later. Gives ya a different perspective for sure... enjoy.. I'm on the last row of that sea of bikes, lol View: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e44EzrwpvEA&feature=youtu.be
My 2012 tc250 would stall a little too easy so this past weekend I tried raising the idle a little. So far so good.
Here's my row, 14, going off the line View: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGpfIRgpLMc&feature=youtu.be
Well our race,Daytona Dirt Riders, was scheduled for yesterday but 3-4" of rain on Tuesday literally sunk our property. Our parking lot would've been like the Hotel CA, the motorhomes could enter but they would never leave. So we had to postpone & hope for a rain date. Will possibly be a recurring theme this year down here, water table pretty high this year.
I know, we were heartbroken. It was gonna be an awesome weekend for sure. I cant make Bostwick due to Halloween Horror Night with my kids but I'll be at the next Bartow. Good Luck!
My son did very well at the first race on his wr125 got 2nd in 200a loves his bike. He likes his bike way more then he did his ktm.
Yes we are Mike, come on up. The track & parking area are drying up nicely. My contribution to the course is from 3.7 to 6.0 mi. for Sunday. Hopefully won't get TOO much rain tonite.
