  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Fuel conditioning?

A Class
Hi everyone. Any recommendations on fuel conditioners for my 350? I can only by ethanol fuel. Anything out there that helps valves stay in check?

Thanks

I run Star-Tron in mine. It is suppose to help with carbon build up and stuff along with eliminating Ethanol. Fresh oil and clean air filter will help keep you valves in spec too.

Tinken Stabil not just for sitting fuel? Using it to help burn water infused ethanol? I like to use only Shell Premium or other top tier premiums and I noticed the 10% ethanol sticker on the pump the other day.......I almost feel like I should go back to the VP station and pay for the 100 streetblaze formula......but my issue is when I cant get to the good stuff , so the pump premium is the best choice. Focus/tech info for all of us here- what's a good additive(s) to counter and ill effects of having ethanol in the fuel.

Startron and Red Stabil are the same thing according to their SDS sheets. Green Stabil contains a new additive which completely emulsifies any moisture, keeping it from clogging your efi components.

Just a heads up to all I read somewhere that if u go to the gas station to fill up your bike don't pay for the premium stuff. What I read says that it takes 3 to 5 gallons to switch from what ever the person befor you choose to use (in most cases 87). Of course this is only for stations that have one hose per pump.

I have read this too ,but read 1 gal or so. I will generally put a couple gallons in my truck then in my race can just incase.

According to an article in WSJ...

A: It is a genuine concern, but one that motorcyclists tend to appreciate more than car drivers. According to the American Petroleum Institute the gas-pump hose typically retains about one third of a gallon of fuel. So when you pump a couple gallons of 93-octane premium after the previous customer pumped 87-octane regular, your fuel load would be diluted (not to mention overpriced).

This is more important to motorcyclists because bikes have smaller fuel tanks and a lower tolerance for low-octane gas compared with most cars. I have found that high-performance motorcycles designed to burn premium fuel run poorly on regular. They generally do not have the complex engine-control systems that allow cars to run on fuels of varying octane ratings.

I don't think diluting your premium fuel with a little regular will harm your motorcycle, especially if you always select the highest octane rating available. However, next time you're filling up you may want to get in line behind the driver with the highest-performance car in the station.

I will usually pump a gallon or two into my truck before I fill my gas can for that reason! On the street bike I tried to stop at a gas station that had separate hoses for each grade of fuel. I know that doesn't help but I just told myself it did lol!

I either use 100AV fuel from our local airport @$5 per gallon or VP110 @$8.50 per gallon. Both have lead and a longer shelf life than any pump gas even after Stabil is added. VP110 is good for 3 years with no additives. VP also makes a 100 octane for museum vehicles that had a 30 year shelf life in you have a classic that sits and you don't want to some day find the carb casting eaten away.

I use seafoam in all my equipment. It lubed the valves, loosens and frees stuck rings, fuel stabilizer.

Seafoam is 80% Kerosene. Mineral Spirits (Paint Thinner) is actually one higher on the distillation table, basically a direct equivalent. It is also a much cheaper alternative. I use mineral spirits to clean my injectors in my truck, cheap and it works.

I am using the StaBil marine, but noticed the new green stuff the other day specifically labeled ethanol treatment. Hey Racemx, I found quite a few stations on my recent visit in KY that sell the good stuff. It seems that most Phillips 66 stations sell ethanol free premium. Also discovered that the premium at BP is also that way in many cases.

I just scored some Shell AV gas for 3.99! I've been mixing it 50/50 with race gas for the 2 smoke. For fun I'm going to do a 50/50 AV/pump mix for the 449 on my next outing. I'll still throw some StaBil and a cap full of 2 stroke mix in the 5 gal can for good measure.

AV gas is not meant for bikes.... not the best fuel but probably better than pump
I've heard that but nobody has ever given a reason why. It's been used for decades in drag race cars and all types of marine and motorcycles and I have never heard of a fuel related failure. Do you know the reason why? I do know from experience that in a bracket race drag car it is less consistent and harder to predict ETs when the air density altitude changed (usually it would speed up too much) but again it never resulted in damage.

I also put a small cap full of 2 stroke oil in my 4 stroke fuel for a bit of lube for the injector, intake valves and piece of mind.

I've been told that AV gas is formulated to run drier? I think that's the term, to prevent carb icing at altitude. Whatever the deal is when it comes right down to it, ethanol diluted pump isn't made for motorcycles either! There's a big push right now to lobby congress to prevent the EPA from implementing their next imperial edict to make every station sell 15%
